Lesson 2: Working Together, Sharing the Benefits
Linking production and consumption along the value chain.
No longer simply providing what is readily available, many farmers, ranchers, and agricultural cooperatives have shifted their production mindset from "sell whatever you have" to "produce what the market needs." They proactively grasp market trends, focusing on creating products that meet the needs of businesses and consumers, thereby avoiding passive business practices. This innovation is opening up a sustainable path for modern agriculture, bringing double benefits.

Yen Dung Clean Vegetable Cooperative is a prime example of production organized according to orders. With contracts signed with supermarket chains, the cooperative ensures products have clear and transparent origins, meet strict food safety and hygiene standards, and maintain a consistent daily supply. The cooperative has a closed-loop production plan; initially, it only cultivated a few hectares, but now it has expanded to dozens of hectares with greenhouses and net houses applying high technology to production. Each day, the cooperative employs dozens of workers for processing, sorting, packaging, and caring for the crops. Thanks to the synchronized implementation of technical solutions and sales linkages, the cooperative has provided a stable supply of clean vegetables to supermarket chains in the province and many large shopping centers in Hanoi , averaging about 3 tons of vegetables and fruits per day. More than 10 products, such as cucumbers, cantaloupes, and honeydews, have achieved OCOP (One Commune One Product) certification.
Similarly, the recent lychee harvest in Phuc Hoa commune saw the participation of businesses purchasing early-ripening lychees that achieved OCOP 4-star certification at a stable price of 35,000 VND/kg, with flexible adjustments according to market developments. A representative of the orchards, Mr. Ngo Van Cuong (Quat Du village, Phuc Hoa commune), stated: “The businesses proactively selected the growing areas and assigned technical staff to coordinate and guide the care process, supervising all production activities to ensure export standards to the European market. Testing results showed that all indicators fully met the requirements of our foreign partners.”

PTK 879 Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Tien Du commune) specializes in producing products such as PTK shrimp paste with stewed pork, stir-fried pork with fermented shrimp paste, dried buffalo meat, and dried pork, all of which have achieved OCOP 4-star certification. Currently, the products are widely sold in supermarkets nationwide, helping the company maintain stable production and business operations.
In addition to the aforementioned units, the entire province has thousands of models for linking the consumption of clean, safe agricultural products that meet OCOP standards. Because of their clear origin and high quality, these products have gained prestige and are favored by consumers. This reality confirms that agricultural production in the locality is gradually transforming towards closer linkages, from supplying products to meet market demand to fulfilling orders, contributing to increased value, professionalism, and competitiveness in the market.
Farmers, businesses… working together
As the focus on clean agricultural products increases, consumption methods are also gradually expanding and diversifying. Beyond traditional sales models, localities have proactively leveraged the strengths of e-commerce, bringing a wide range of products to domestic and international trading platforms. Recently, the Department of Industry and Trade, in collaboration with content creators, organized a livestream promoting lychees directly from the orchards in Luc Ngan commune on the TikTok platform. Representatives from the Provincial People's Committee also participated in the promotion and introduction, contributing to increased confidence among businesses and consumers in local agricultural products. In just one morning, dozens of tons of lychees were successfully ordered, a clear testament to the effectiveness of modern business methods. This activity helped increase sales, enhance brand recognition of Bac Ninh agricultural products, and effectively tap into potential customers.
Besides social media, e-commerce platforms have also been supporting the consumption of the province's agricultural products in recent years, such as Buudien.vn (formerly Postmart.vn); Sendo, Lazada, Alibaba… According to a representative of the provincial Post Office, from 2021 to the present, the unit has actively coordinated with agencies, cooperatives, and farmers to promote the consumption of lychees to people nationwide through the Vietnam Post network. The unit's experience is to utilize the extensive transportation network of the postal system, from road, rail, and air… to bring fresh lychees to the centers of provinces and cities nationwide, ensuring the product's freshness and quality. At the same time, they have put lychees on the Buudien.vn e-commerce platform; and guided cooperatives and farmers to sell on digital platforms. After about four years, there are now more than 7,300 user accounts in the province selling goods on the Buudien.vn e-commerce platform with over 1,700 products, including more than 100 OCOP products; generating over 100,000 transactions with a total value of approximately 50 billion VND. The provincial post office is continuing to connect and promote the consumption of agricultural products from Bac Ninh.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, by leveraging the strengths of digital platforms, many agricultural products from the province have been widely promoted, not only domestically but also reaching international markets. After a long period of preparation, in March 2024, Thien An One-Member Limited Liability Company in Bac Giang ward established a sales booth on the international e-commerce platform Amazon.com. To date, the company's car air fresheners and rosemary tea products sold on the platform generate an average revenue of over 1 billion VND per month from customers in the United States. Currently, customers in countries such as France and Germany have accessed the company's products. To meet demand, the company plans to expand its scale and research and develop new products to offer to customers in the future.
To ensure the sustainable development of the agricultural production chain, Bac Ninh has implemented a comprehensive set of practical support mechanisms and policies. Notably, these include encouraging the expansion of raw material areas, developing key, distinctive, and potential products oriented towards high-quality commodity development. The locality also promotes the formation of value-added chains from production to consumption; supports the design of product packaging to meet consumer preferences; and strengthens trade promotion activities to effectively connect producers with modern distribution systems.
At the 2025 lychee sales promotion conference of Bac Ninh province, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai assessed that over the years, Bac Ninh has had a very commendable approach, rationally planning cultivation areas, strongly applying science and technology to farming, and expanding production and consumption linkage models for agricultural products. In particular, growers have proactively accessed and practiced VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic farming processes, contributing to improving quality, preserving brand and reputation of agricultural products. As a result, a large area with a large population in the province has high incomes, and many households have risen to achieve sustainable wealth. The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly noted that e-commerce is becoming widespread and has a significant advantage. The province's proactive application of business methods based on new technologies in lychee sales is a correct, innovative, and effective direction in the current situation.
It is evident that the formation of production-consumption linkages and the diversification of agricultural product distribution channels have made significant progress, thanks to flexible adaptation to market mechanisms. These positive developments have contributed to making agriculture a solid pillar of the economy, creating a boost in income and improving the lives of rural people in Bac Ninh. However, to continue developing harmoniously and sustainably, more comprehensive and decisive solutions are required.
