Meritorious Artist Mai Chau - Mrs. Nghi Que of Vietnamese cinema in the 60s passed away at 3:10 am on May 24 due to old age and poor health.
According to information from her family, she breathed her last peacefully, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Meritorious Artist Mai Chau's real name is Mai Thi Chau, born on January 10, 1927 in Vinh city, Nghe An . Her family has a very famous and wealthy business tradition.
When the August Revolution broke out in 1945, her family was mobilized by the government to demolish their house, in order to implement the policy of "empty garden and empty house." This was also the time when she met soldier Vu Ky Lan in the army marching south to participate in the campaign. He was an elegant, intellectual young man, educated in a Western school, the youngest son in a bourgeois family in Yen Ninh street, Hanoi . They quickly became husband and wife when Mai Chau was only 19 years old.
After 1954, Mr. Vu Ky Lan became Political Commissar of Vinh Linh Special Zone, then Director of Military Cinema.
In December 1945, Mai Chau and her husband joined the army marching south. In 1946, she became the secretary of General Nguyen Son (uncle of Vu Ky Lan), who was then Chairman of the Administrative Resistance Committee of South Vietnam, Commander and Political Commissar of Inter-Zone 4.
In 1947, she became involved in the theater, being one of the first actors of the Frontline Theater Troupe. She joined the Liberation Army Propaganda Troupe to serve the soldiers in all the southern battlefields against the French colonialists.
In 1956, she was assigned to the Cinema Drama Group, participating in dubbing foreign films.
When the Vietnam Cinema School opened the first Actor Training class, she and some colleagues participated in the audition and were selected as official actors of the Vietnam Feature Film Studio.

From here, she participated in "Chung mot dong song" (1959) - the first work of Vietnamese revolutionary cinema.
After this role, she continued to appear in a series of famous films "Construction Girl" (1960), "Chi Tu Hau" (1963), "Di buoc nuoc" (1964).
In particular, the leading role of Le My in the film “The Fight Still Continues” (1966) is an unforgettable mark in Vietnamese cinema. She was awarded a certificate of merit by the Minister of Public Security for her contribution to this film.
Small screen audiences cannot forget the stingy and scheming Mrs. Nghi Que in “Chi Dau,” the scheming Mrs. Pho Doan in “Sao Thang Tam,” Ba Kien’s wife in “Lang Vu Dai” of the past, or the Queen Mother in “Dem Hoi Long Tri” …
Meritorious Artist Mai Chau acted in films until she was over 80 years old, with her last film being “Bi, don’t be afraid”./.
