Peach, Pho and Piano attracted the attention and love of the public. Inspired by the 60-day and night war to protect Hanoi in late 1946 and early 1947, the film not only depicts the fierce nature of the war, but also delves into understanding and explaining the character and qualities of Hanoians.
The character of the old painter in "Peach, Pho and Piano" by Meritorious Artist Tran Luc brings many thoughts to the audience.
One of the characters that left a deep impression on the audience's mind was the old painter - one of the Hanoians who stayed at the ramparts, played by Meritorious Artist Tran Luc.
According to Tran Luc, his painter character was inspired by famous painters such as Bui Xuan Phai and Linh Chi with deep artistic emotions about Hanoi during the resistance war.
The artist in the film spent his whole life searching for the essence of sublime beauty. And he found it from the people around him. He fell while trying to protect the painting he had been painting all night. During the fierce war, the artist still persistently pursued art, stayed in the capital for his own ideals and remained loyal to the Revolution.
The artist character was inspired by famous painters such as Bui Xuan Phai and Linh Chi.
Sharing about this character, director Phi Tien Son said: " The artist was stuck for ideas. War did not inspire him to create. It was the love and innocence of the boy (Angel) that sparked the idea. At the moment he fell, he looked at the picture he had just drawn and smiled with satisfaction."
The special point of the film is that some characters, including the old painter, are nameless. This is considered the intention of director Phi Tien Son. Meritorious Artist Tran Luc said he really likes this approach of the director and crew. This is also the first time Tran Luc plays an unnamed character in more than 20 years of film career.
" He's simply an old painter, like other characters like the pho seller, the shoe shine boy, the militia soldier... All the characters in the film represent the classes of Hanoi people in 1947, but if you look closely, you'll see that they all come together to form the image of an old Hanoian, " Meritorious Artist Tran Luc said about his role in an interview.
This is also the first time Tran Luc plays an unnamed character.
The character of the old painter and Tran Luc's performance gave many viewers goosebumps. One viewer commented: " I think the character of the old painter has real depth. In my opinion, the painter appears to be a humorous person but still has a hint of sadness. Not only were the streets destroyed and people evacuated, but also because the artist's art could not survive the flames of war."
As a native of Hanoi, Meritorious Artist Tran Luc devoted all his heart to this character and the film with a spirit of gratitude to his birthplace. Therefore, he was very moved by the audience's affection for the artist character in particular and Dao, pho and piano in general.
"In the 1990s, I received many letters from the audience giving comments, praising or criticizing my roles. The handwritten letters were sent by post because the Internet was not popular at that time, I treasured and preserved them. But those letters and many other mementos were lost after I got married and moved house, that's how unlucky my fate was.
Now it's different, in the 4.0 era, audiences send opinions, praise, criticism via email, message... about the films, plays I direct, about the characters I play in the films," Meritorious Artist Tran Luc shared.
Meritorious Artist Tran Luc was moved by the audience's affection for the character and the film.
In the letter he revealed, an audience member gave many compliments to Tran Luc's role as a painter. This person compared the painter character to "a warm ray of sunshine, bright colors in a place where fireworks explode, bullets fly where there is only sad gray and black". The appearance of this character makes viewers feel happy, bringing "bright freedom".
Meritorious Artist Tran Luc is happy that the film has a wide reach: " The film Dao, Pho and Piano is being welcomed by young people. This is the success of a film crew led by director and screenwriter Phi Tien Son. Currently, the film is still "making waves" in Hanoi. After the first screening in Ho Chi Minh City, a young audience sent me a letter via my personal page. The film crew and I are very happy that the film "Dao, Pho and Piano" is gradually being shown widely and being positively received by young people."
Da Nang people lined up in the sun to buy tickets to see "Peach, Pho and Piano".
