After “Ghost Lamp,” director Hoang Nam returns with the family film “Don’t Be Sad, Grandma,” featuring new faces that are both strange and familiar: Tran Tu - nicknamed Tran Bom, son of People’s Artist Tran Luc in the main role and Hong Khanh - daughter of Meritorious Artist Chieu Xuan in a supporting role.
It is called both strange and familiar because Tran Tu and Hong Khanh both have many characteristics of their parents, which are easily recognized by the audience. Always accompanying and supporting the younger generation, but the veteran actors also want their children to create their own identity and mark.
Tran "Bom" returns to the screen after 11 years
Tran Tu was born in 2008, the third child of People's Artist Tran Luc. He first appeared on the small screen in the program "Dad, where are we going?" when he was only 6 years old. Tran "Bom" at that time was innocent, mischievous, and witty, many times "exposing" his father on television, making the audience laugh.
Returning to the public after 11 years, the boy Bom has grown up and is somewhat more quiet. He took on the main role named Tien in “Don’t Be Sad, Grandma” - a boy who grew up in poverty, his parents died early so he had to depend on his grandmother (People’s Artist Thanh Hoa).
“It is true that Tran Bom's image leaves a strong impression on the audience because of his humor and mischief. With this project, I hope to bring a more profound image of Tran Tu, no longer mischievous like in 'Dad, where are we going?' I guarantee everyone will be surprised,” the Gen Z actor shared.

The first time reading the script, the "gen Z" actor was immediately impressed. He sympathized with the character Tien because he was shy but smart and interesting. Both were on the journey of growing up, carrying with them the spirit of hard work and love for their family.
Tran Tu shared that he has loved cinema for a long time, but acting in a film is a different story. He is happy but also worried about his first role, trying his best to see how far he can go. The young actor is guided and accompanied by his father - People's Artist Tran Luc.
People's Artist Tran Luc is an actor and director. He and Meritorious Artist Chieu Xuan not only appeared in the film, but also taught acting and supported the young actors in the troupe.
Tran Luc expressed his pride in overcoming new challenges with his son. The artist shared that once his son had to call for help because he couldn’t cry on set, but he soon overcame it with the experience his father passed on and his own efforts, shouting to him, “I did it, Dad.”
Hong Khanh was "shocked for 3 days" when she got the role
Hong Khanh, 21 years old, is the second daughter of Meritorious Artist Chieu Xuan, currently a student of the Vocal Department at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Compared to her co-star, Hong Khanh is a bit more lively. She plays the role of Linh - Tien's neighbor and childhood friend.

Witnessing her friend's arduous journey, she understands Tien's love for her family, as well as his efforts to assert himself. Hong Khanh's role represents a positive young man from Hanoi , who is both ambitious and takes care of his family and his psychology, especially with his boyfriend when he starts his career.
Going to the audition with a carefree mindset and not much preparation, Hong Khanh was surprised when she was chosen: "When I received the news that I had won the role, I was shocked for three days." Immediately after that, the girl embarked on a journey to lose 12kg for the role and soon became friends with co-star Tran Tu, sympathizing because they were both children of great artists and were both blank slates in the acting field.
Meritorious Artist Chieu Xuan said she was somewhat worried when she learned that her child had won the role. “My life motto is that no one can live for another, especially in the arts,” the actress shared. “I cannot help my child directly, but I always observe and listen to see what state he is in and what he needs. I tell him and his co-stars: if you need anything, you can share it with me, and I will help you find the answer.”

Chieu Xuan and her husband, musician Do Hong Quan, advise their daughter to be herself in order to find the right emotions for the film. In "Don't Be Sad, Grandma," the actress plays a supporting role, marking her second collaboration with director Hoang Nam.
"Don't be sad, Grandma" explores the relationships between members of a family, set in the context of modern urban Hanoi. The film aims to convey stories and memories that belong to everyone, thereby connecting generations.
In addition to the above actors, the film also features People's Artist Thanh Hoa, Artist Bui Bai Binh, actress Quach Thu Phuong, Ha Huong (Nguyet of "Phia Truoc La Bau Troi" and singer Tuan Hung)... scheduled to be released on December 12 this year.
