(GLO)- Through the initial investigation results, the Investigation Police Agency of Gia Lai Province Police determined that the defendant Do Thi Thu Hien (born in 1978, residing in Plei Op village, Hoa Lu ward, Pleiku city), accountant of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, created fake documents to withdraw more than 3.5 billion VND.

Specifically, from February 2021 to April 2023, in her role as the unit's accountant, Ms. Hien created dozens of fake documents to withdraw more than 3.5 billion VND from the provincial Covid-19 prevention and control fund opened by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Gia Lai province at the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam - Gia Lai Branch to pay debts and personal expenses.

By early April 2023, when the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Gia Lai province decided to allocate funds from this fund to relevant units, Ms. Hien was unable to compensate for the above amount, so she voluntarily quit her job and left her place of residence.

In response to the above incident, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Gia Lai Province requested the Gia Lai Provincial Police to search for Ms. Hien. On May 9, 2023, the Investigation Police Agency of Gia Lai Provincial Police issued Decision No. 08/QD-CSHS on searching for Ms. Do Thi Thu Hien, who was denounced and suspected of committing a crime, whose current whereabouts are unknown. After the decision to search was issued, on May 11, Ms. Hien returned to present herself and reported her crimes. On May 23, the Investigation Police Agency of Gia Lai Provincial Police issued a decision to prosecute the criminal case, prosecute the accused and issue a 4-month detention order against Ms. Do Thi Thu Hien for the crime of "Embezzlement of property".
