Pham Thi Kim Ngan - a student majoring in management information systems - is one of the students who achieved this outstanding achievement.
Set goals from the first year
Sharing about her initial study orientation, Ngan said that her parents wanted her to pursue the medical field. However, through the process of self-study, Ngan realized that she loved the dynamic and creative environment of the economic sector.
"As far as I know, management information systems is a field that combines economic knowledge and technological acumen.
I think I have good logical thinking, am quick with numbers and adapt quickly, so I decided to choose this industry," Ngan said.
To achieve a 4.0 GPA and graduate early, Ngan said that right from her first year of university, when she started to learn carefully about the study regulations, exams and grading methods, she set herself a goal of achieving a 4.0 GPA for the entire course.
According to Ngan, it is not just a number, but a long journey with a lot of pressure. During the four years of university, to maintain her form and complete the program early with absolute results, Ngan had to maintain a high level of discipline, at the same time continuously learn and adjust her learning methods.
With a major program of 128 credits, Ngan has a detailed plan for each semester: which subjects to study first, which subjects to leave for later, and how many credits to allocate each semester to ensure quality without being overloaded. In particular, Ngan prepares very carefully for the review part before the exam.
"My school often organizes final exams in about two weeks, so arranging review time is extremely important. I usually divide my review schedule very clearly. I study each subject and finish that subject. I review the subject that has the exam first. I spend more time on subjects with many credits," Ngan shared.
Ngan also has a fixed rule during exam season: the night before the exam, she will spend the entire evening reviewing the entire content of that subject - a "final" way to help consolidate knowledge and gain more confidence before entering the exam room.
Active learning in class
According to Ngan, learning in class plays a very important role. Listening directly to the teacher's lecture helps to understand the lesson more deeply and quickly than recording and listening again, or exploring the textbook by yourself.
"The teachers at my school are all the ones who directly compile the curriculum, so what they teach is the essence of that, and it's also much easier to understand than reading it yourself," Ngan shared.
So she always tries to concentrate as much as possible during class, avoiding being distracted while studying and then having to rush to learn it all again from the beginning when she gets home.
In addition, Ngan especially emphasized the role of initiative in learning. According to Ngan, students should not wait for urging from teachers or friends, nor should they let everything go according to "fate", but need to know how to proactively seize opportunities.
When asked about peer pressure, which is inevitable in an environment full of excellent students, Ngan admitted: "It's true that all the students at my school are good, if not good at this area then good at another. But I always try to focus on my major - what I feel is my strength and also my talent."
Ngan also shared that because she herself is not very active in extracurricular activities and is somewhat introverted, she soon realized that comparing herself with others only makes her feel more pressured and disoriented.
"I choose to focus on myself, on what I do well, instead of looking around and feeling sorry for myself or lacking confidence. It's like forcing a fish to climb a tree - you shouldn't compare your weaknesses to other people's strengths," Ngan said.
In addition to studying at school, Ngan also proactively accumulates practical experience through part-time jobs. For more than two years, Ngan has been an assistant lecturer in applied informatics at the IBD International Training Institute - a dynamic international environment right in the university. In addition, Ngan also tutors English for secondary school students, both to consolidate knowledge and practice communication skills and time management.
Thanks to setting clear goals from the beginning and persistently pursuing them step by step, Ngan has conquered the goals she set for herself since her first year - an achievement that is not just a number, but a testament to her persistent efforts throughout her university years.
Always serious, proactive and creative
Dr. Nguyen Thi Bach Tuyet - Head of the Department of Management Information Systems - commented that Kim Ngan is one of the outstanding students of the Department of Management Information Systems. She always shows a serious, proactive and creative attitude in acquiring knowledge.
In the courses she took, Ngan always volunteered to speak up, contribute constructive ideas to the lessons, and ask insightful questions to clarify professional issues. In addition to her excellent academic results, Ngan also stood out in extracurricular activities and Youth Union and Association work.
"Ngan is always ready to support her friends and actively contribute to class, faculty and school building activities. With her exemplary manner, simple lifestyle and progressive attitude, Ngan always receives love and trust from teachers and friends. She deserves to be a shining example in the school," Ms. Tuyet shared.
