Female driver reverses car into store, seriously injuring security guard

Hai Phong Ms. Nguyen Mai Anh drove a 5-seat car backing into a jewelry store but lost control of her speed and crashed into a security guard sitting in front of the door.

At around 2:15 p.m. on November 15, Ms. Nguyen Mai Anh (36 years old, living in Dong Hai, Le Chan district, Hai Phong city) was driving her car in reverse from the sidewalk of Cau Dat street (Ngo Quyen district). Due to not being able to control the speed, the car crashed into a jewelry store, hitting security guard Le Van Hanh, 63 years old.

The car continued to knock over a motorbike parked at the door, destroying the glass door and two jewelry cabinets in the store.

The strong collision caused Mr. Hanh to suffer multiple injuries and was taken to the Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital for emergency treatment.

The police have cordoned off the scene to investigate the incident. Through testing, Ms. Nguyen Mai Anh did not have a blood alcohol level when driving.

Authorities believe that Ms. Mai Anh may have mistakenly stepped on the brake pedal instead of the gas pedal, causing the accident.
