Car plunges into river, grandfather breaks glass to save 30-month-old grandson from death

(PLVN) - Early this morning in Quang Ngai, a rare accident occurred when a car carrying a grandfather and his 30-month-old grandchild suddenly went off a bridge and sank into the river. Luckily, the grandfather managed to break the glass door and bring his grandchild out safely before being rescued by local people.

At around 6am on May 27, at Bon Can bridge area (Nghia Trung commune, Tu Nghia district, Quang Ngai ), a serious traffic accident occurred when a car fell into the river.

According to initial information, at the above time, Mr. Huu V (residing in Nghia Trung commune, Tu Nghia district) was driving a car carrying his 30-month-old grandson from Nghia Trung commune to the center of Quang Ngai city. When the car reached Bon Can bridge, it suddenly lost control, crashed through the bridge railing and fell straight into the river below.

The loud noise from the scene caused many local residents to panic. Immediately, people near the accident site quickly approached the scene to help with the rescue. At this time, they saw that the driver's side window had been kicked open. Mr. V promptly took the child out of the cabin through the opened window and looked outside for help.

Some people, regardless of the danger, jumped into the river, took the baby from Mr. V and quickly brought him to shore. Only about two minutes later, Mr. V also got out of the car and swam to shore, exhausted but alert.

Tu Nghia District Police arrived promptly at the scene to block off and protect the area and carry out vehicle salvage operations. A rescue vehicle was dispatched to lift the wrecked car ashore for investigation.

Currently the health of both grandfather and grandson is stable.
