On the evening of September 21, in Hangzhou (China), the second match of the Vietnam Olympic team at the 19th ASIAD took place. It was a match against an opponent that was superior in every aspect - the Iran Olympic team. This was the most difficult challenge for coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team in Group B. As expected, the Vietnam Olympic team suffered a heavy defeat with a score of 0-4.
Vietnam Olympic team really wanted to create a surprise against Iran Olympic team, but the opponent scored early in the 5th minute after Motahhari's accurate header. Being behind, the Vietnamese players started to slow down the game to reduce the tempo. The defense played more focused but could not push the formation up and also did not put pressure on the opponent's field.
The difference in class made the match quite easy for the Iranian players. The West Asian team showed superiority in both physicality and technique as well as diverse attacks that confused the Vietnamese Olympic defense. In the end of the first half, the red-shirt players had a hard time stopping the attacks.
In the second half, Vietnam Olympic continued to concede goals against Iran Olympic's continuous attacks. In the 47th minute, receiving a pass down the right wing from his teammate, Touranian Khaleghabad Saman dribbled past Duc Anh before defeating Van Chuan with a low, dangerous shot into the near corner.
5 minutes later, the score was 3-0 for Olympic Iran, when Mahdi Mamizadeh performed a solo against the Vietnamese Olympic defense and then shot a powerful long-range shot that sent the ball straight into the net, leaving goalkeeper Van Chuan helpless.
With a safe gap, Olympic Iran proactively slowed down the match. They no longer pressed the field continuously but tried to keep the ball to save energy for the next matches. However, the West Asian team still had many notable counter-attacks.
In the extra time, Iran took the initiative to slow down the match when they were sure of victory, but Olympic Vietnam still had to concede another goal. In the second extra time, Aria Barzegar easily headed the ball to seal a 4-0 victory for Olympic Iran.
Defeating Vietnam Olympic 4-0, Iran leads Group B with 4 points (4-0 difference), while Saudi Arabia is second (4 points, 3-0 difference). Vietnam Olympic is third with 3 points while Mongolia has no points.
With this defeat, coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team are at a disadvantage in both goal difference and points. In the final match, Vietnam Olympic team will face Saudi Arabia Olympic team at 6:30 p.m. on September 24. Coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team need at least one point to keep their hopes of advancing.
