76-year-old grandfather takes grandson to take high school entrance exam to 'get good luck'

Among hundreds of parents taking their children to the high school exam site at Dich Vong Hau Secondary School (Hanoi), the most prominent image is that of Mr. Do Van Khi carrying his grandson on an old motorbike.

At 6:20 a.m. on June 7, Mr. Do Van Khi (76 years old, from Luong Tai District, Bac Ninh) took his grandson on an old motorbike from Thanh Xuan District ( Hanoi ) to the exam site of Dich Vong Hau Secondary School (Cau Giay District, Hanoi).

As soon as the car stopped at the school gate, Mr. Khi kindly took off his helmet and told his grandson Nguyen Minh Hai (a student at Nguyen Truong To Secondary School, Dong Da District) "not to be hasty or subjective whether the questions are easy or difficult, you must be calm because the knowledge is already in your head".

Mr. Khi said that his grandson wants to take the entrance exam to Kim Lien High School (Dong Da District). He took his grandson to the exam on behalf of his parents because when he was young, he passed the high school exam in his hometown and then went to study abroad. Therefore, "his parents hope that he will take his grandson to the exam so that he will have good luck."

"This morning, the whole family woke up at 4am to prepare food and things for my child to take the exam. I hope he will pass the entrance exam to the high school of his choice," said Mr. Khi.

This morning, June 7, nearly 103,000 candidates began taking the literature exam in the 2025 public 10th grade exam in Hanoi. According to Thanh Nien , on the morning of June 7, thousands of parents brought their children to the exam site.

The test starts at 8am, but candidates need to arrive at least 60 minutes early to check in.
