Spanish football is going through a turbulent time. Barcelona has just been accused of bribing referees for 17 years (2001-2018). Yesterday, Real Madrid was accused of mafia-like behavior by former referee Eduardo Iturralde Gonzalez.

Eduardo Iturralde Gonzalez refereed in La Liga from 1995 to 2012. He currently works for Cadena SER, analysing referee decisions in La Liga matches.
Speaking to the press, the former referee denounced Real Madrid President Florentino Perez. He said: "As a journalist, please investigate who called me into a private room. You can see how some people try to put pressure on the referee.
In the 6-1 win of Real Madrid against Deportivo or something, after the game ended, me and my assistants left the pitch. Someone pulled me into a private room and said: 'I just ask you to make decisions for us like Barcelona'.
I asked him if he was joking. That had never happened to me before. No president had ever taken me to a private room. The one who put me in that room that day was Florentino Perez. I have nothing to hide. It happened. The CTA knows about it. I will not hide it."

In the past, referee Eduardo Iturralde Gonzalez admitted that he always had difficulty officiating Real Madrid matches. The reason is that referees are often ridiculed by the media if they make decisions that are unfavorable to Los Blancos.
After denouncing President Florentino Perez, it is likely that Eduardo Iturralde Gonzalez will become the target of attacks by pro-Real Madrid newspapers. Recent incidents show that the "black hand" of Real Madrid and Barcelona has been rampant in La Liga for decades. That ensures their dominance in Spain's top league.
