Born and raised in Buor village, Mr. Y Drim Ktul (born in 1962) understands better than anyone the hardships of the villagers on the journey to escape poverty and build a new life. Recalling the year 2000, he said that his family was still one of the most disadvantaged households in the village. Not resigned to poverty, he proactively learned through radio, newspapers, training courses and effective economic models in the area. Each visit and each training session became an opportunity for him to accumulate new knowledge and determined to change his life.
From what he learned, he boldly renovated his garden, removed old coffee trees to plant new varieties for high productivity; at the same time, he promoted livestock farming, applying advanced techniques to production. His family invested in plows, hole drilling machines, milling machines... to help reduce labor and increase economic efficiency. Those persistent efforts brought "sweet fruit". By 2005, his family had 3 hectares of coffee, pepper and a herd of breeding cows, bringing in a stable income of over 1 billion VND per year. He was recognized as a "Good Production and Business" household at the provincial level, a bright spot in the local economic movement.
But for Mr. Y Drim Ktul, the greatest joy is seeing Buor village change every day. He does not keep his experiences to himself, he is always willing to share and support people to develop the economy. Every year, he guides 5-7 poor and near-poor households to access farming and livestock farming techniques. He directly shows how to prune coffee branches, improve gardens, and convert to new varieties; guides how to ferment feed for livestock in the dry season; and supports free cow breeding for disadvantaged households. In addition, he also creates seasonal jobs for 5 local workers with an income of 200,000 - 300,000 VND/day. Thanks to this practical support, many families have risen out of poverty and stabilized their lives. "What I know, I teach people. I just hope that the village will become more prosperous," he smiled.
Trusted by the people, in 2021, he was elected as the Head of the Buor Farmers' Association; in 2022, he continued to hold the role of Head of the Elderly Association until now. In every position, he has set an example of leading in production emulation movements, uniting to help each other develop the economy.
In the New Rural Construction movement, Mr. Y Drim Ktul actively coordinated with the village chief, the Front's working committee and mass organizations to propagate and mobilize people to donate land and assets on land to upgrade and expand roads, contributing to improving life. A typical example is the road in front of his house, from a small, narrow red dirt road, muddy in the rainy season, dusty in the dry season, has now become a 700 m long, 3 m wide, clean, beautiful and convenient concrete road. Thanks to his persistent advocacy and the local political system, more than 50 households agreed to donate land, helping the project to be completed by the end of 2024, bringing great joy to the whole village.
Sharing about Mr. Y Drim Ktul, Ms. H'Oanh Bkrong - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Cu Jut commune commented: "In the locality, Mr. Y Drim Ktul is always sociable and enthusiastic in guiding ethnic minorities to apply science and technology in production and economic development, while promoting the spirit of solidarity to rise together. He also actively coordinates with the local political system to mobilize people to join hands in building new rural areas, contributing to improving the lives of Buor village. His persistent efforts and contributions have become a shining example in the patriotic emulation movement of the province".
