Peru attaches importance to developing friendly relations and cooperation in all aspects with Vietnam.

President Luong Cuong met with President of the Council of Ministers of Peru Gustavo Adriazén.

On the afternoon of November 13, 2024, within the framework of his official visit to the Republic of Peru, President Luong Cuong met with President of the Council of Ministers Gustavo Adriazén.

The Chairman of the Peruvian Council of Ministers expressed his delight at welcoming the President and the Vietnamese High-Level Delegation on an official visit to Peru on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations; affirming that the visit has historical significance, creating momentum to further deepen the Vietnam-Peru friendship and cooperation in the coming period.

President Luong Cuong thanked the Peruvian government for its warm welcome and good sentiments for the Vietnamese delegation; highly appreciated Peru's dynamic development, increasing role and position in the region; welcomed Peru's open and active foreign policy as well as its presence in the Asia- Pacific region, with Peru becoming a development partner of ASEAN in January 2024. On this occasion, the President congratulated Peru on assuming the role of the host country of APEC 2024; believed that the APEC 2024 High-Level Week will be a great success, thereby continuing to enhance Peru's role, position and international prestige in the region and on the international arena.

President of the Council of Ministers Gustavo Adriazén affirmed that Peru attaches importance to developing friendly relations and cooperation in all aspects with Vietnam; highly appreciates the achievements Vietnam has made in nearly 40 years of Doi Moi and hopes that the two countries will increase sharing of good experiences in national governance and implementing socio-economic development policies.

The President assessed that the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Peru have made impressive progress in recent times, especially in the field of trade and investment. Peru is currently the number 1 investment partner and the 6th largest trade partner of Vietnam in Latin America, while Vietnam is Peru's largest trade partner in ASEAN. However, the President affirmed that the Vietnam-Peru relationship still has much room to expand cooperation further. Accordingly, on the basis of the current good political relationship, the President and the President of Peru agreed to adopt a Joint Statement on strengthening bilateral relations between Vietnam and Peru with specific and substantive measures to fully exploit the potential for cooperation, aiming to bring the Vietnam-Peru relationship to a new height.

The President of the Peruvian Council of Ministers highly appreciated the investment activities of Vietnamese enterprises in Peru, especially the very successful telecommunications project of the Vietnam Telecommunications and Technology Group (Viettel), affirming his support and creating conditions for Viettel to expand cooperation projects on digital transformation, digital technology, smart cities, cyber security, etc., contributing to the development of Peru and bringing long-term benefits to businesses and people of the two countries.

The two leaders agreed that the fact that the two countries are both members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) is an important basis for enhancing trade and investment cooperation. Accordingly, the two sides agreed to promote increased contact activities and visits by the two countries' senior leaders and exchanges at all levels, ministries and sectors in the coming years, and committed to regularly and effectively implementing political-diplomatic and economic-trade dialogue mechanisms to make the cooperation between the two countries increasingly substantive and effective. The two sides agreed to closely coordinate and actively promote cooperation between ASEAN and the Pacific Alliance as well as strengthen coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums and international organizations. The Chairman of the Council of Ministers and before that, the President and Leaders of Peru congratulated Vietnam on being trusted and supported to host APEC Year 2027; affirmed that Peru will support and closely coordinate to make APEC Year 2027 hosted by Vietnam a great success.

On this occasion, the President also conveyed to the leaders of the Peruvian Council of Ministers his regards and invitation to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to visit Vietnam at a time suitable for both sides./.
