The one-time hit "Why?" 2023 version attracts listeners after a few days of release
The one-time hit "Why is that?" by Pham Khanh Hung appeared in the series Pham Khanh Hung's Greatest Hits, which was released a few days ago, and unexpectedly became a "phenomenon" that received attention in the Vietnamese music industry.
This song was originally included in Pham Khanh Hung's debut album released in 2005 and was also the first hit, and also the peak of Pham Khanh Hung's musical career up to this point. After 18 years, "Why is that?" is still loved by a large audience and many young singers choose to cover it on music stages.
However, the 2023 version of "Why?" is completely different from the original with the appearance of Pham Dinh Thai Ngan as a rapper.
Pham Dinh Thai Ngan said that his youth was associated with Pham Khanh Hung's music, so when he received the invitation to collaborate, he was happy and honored.
As for Pham Khanh Hung, he knew Pham Dinh Thai Ngan since watching the movie "Mat Biec". Pham Khanh Hung was attracted by the voice and the soundtrack sung by Pham Dinh Thai Ngan, so at first he mistook this male singer for the male lead of the movie "Mat Biec". Therefore, Pham Khanh Hung really wanted to invite this emotional voice back into the project.
Despite the collaboration, Pham Khanh Hung is also afraid that Pham Dinh Thai Ngan will steal his "hit".
Pham Khanh Hung also shared that he and Pham Dinh Thai Ngan did not spend too much time working together on the idea of the combined product, but less than 24 hours later, this guy sent him back the demo without any editing.
Indeed, Pham Dinh Thai Ngan's additional rap helped "Why is that?" brings a new breath, more suitable for the current music trend. Perhaps that's why Pham Khanh Hung half-joked, half-seriously said: "Ngan's rap performance was so excellent that Hung felt worried because maybe this new version was only hot for Ngan's performance."
The two had an interesting collaboration when they remade an old hit.
Regarding some comments saying that they "feel" the original version's arrangement more, musician Le Thanh Tam shared: "Every time I re-arrange, I always want listeners to feel the work in a different way. Those who like the old version are already available online, just open it and listen. If the new version is the same as the old version, then why bother re-arranging it?"
