Developing border and border gate tourism associated with culture and history

On May 27, the Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion of Lang Son province organized the Conference "Building eco-tourism products in Loc Binh district" to find solutions to exploit the potential and inherent advantages of the border district, promote tourism development, attract tourists, create jobs, and improve people's lives.

At the conference, Director of the Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion of Lang Son province Hoang Xuan Thuan acknowledged that Loc Binh is one of the districts with great potential for eco-tourism development in the province. With the advantage of being a border district, with a 28.89 km long border, adjacent to Ninh Minh district, Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guangxi, China. Along with that, the district has a system of long-standing historical and cultural relics, with many humanistic values ​​such as: Vang Khac Communal House, Trung Thien Pagoda, 100-year-old ancient village well, Chi Lang guerrilla area - places that have gone down in history, becoming "red addresses"to educate traditions for the younger generation.

In particular, the Mau Son mountain peak tourist area is sometimes covered with white snow in winter, becoming a famous tourist destination throughout the country. The district is also one of the attractive destinations on the journey to explore the UNESCO Lang Son Global Geopark, with unique destinations such as: Discovering French architecture in Mau Son; Na Duong valley - a place likened to a window into the world of ancient lakes. Not only having the advantage of natural landscape, Loc Binh also preserves many outstanding cultural values, a place where the cultures of the Kinh, Tay, Nung, Dao ethnic groups intersect with many unique folk cultural heritages such as: Then singing, sli, luong, lion and cat dance, ethnic martial arts dance, crossbow shooting, Dao people's coming-of-age ceremony...

These are important factors for tourism development and in fact, this locality has many outstanding tourist attractions that have been put into exploitation quite effectively such as: Border patrol route from Chi Ma border gate to Bac Xa commune; High Point 424 relic with majestic mountain landscapes of the land and sky, bringing emotions to visitors from near and far. However, in general, tourism in the district has not developed strongly. Currently, there are not many impressive products that can keep visitors for a long time; service quality is still low...

At the conference, researchers, scientists, and representatives of travel companies assessed that Loc Binh district has many advantages in terms of historical and cultural relics and natural landscapes to develop ecotourism, build diverse and rich tourism products connecting forests, rivers, streams, farms, medicinal herbs, trekking and geological tourism...

Dr. Le Quang Dang, Vietnam Institute of Culture, Arts, Sports and Tourism, "suggested" that in order to attract tourists, tourism must create a highlight of difference and unique characteristics, not imitate the way of doing things elsewhere. More importantly, it is necessary to always innovate thinking, improve the quality of existing tourism products, and develop plans and strategies to create more new and diverse tourism products.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Nguyen Hong, former Head of the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism, Hanoi University of Commerce, said that in the immediate future, the district needs to identify domestic tourists and Chinese tourists as the main target to clearly orient the tourism development strategy and build suitable products. When tourism infrastructure is invested, upgraded and completed, many new destinations and unique, high-quality products have been formed, gradually approaching the tourist markets of Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Europe, North America, India, the Middle East, etc.

Chairman of Loc Binh District People's Committee Trinh Tuan Dong informed that, identifying tourism development as a key economic sector, the district has developed a "Tourism Development Project for the period 2020-2025 and vision to 2030", focusing on improving service quality at destinations; diversifying tourism products; forming tours connecting Loc Binh with districts and cities in the province.

In 2024, there will be about 285 thousand tourists coming to Loc Binh, tourism revenue will reach over 162 billion VND. In 5 months of 2025, the district welcomed more than 200 thousand visitors, tourism revenue will reach over 123 billion VND.
