The Filipino athlete defeated the defending champion Artem Dolgopyat, the Israeli athlete who was 34 points behind him (total score of 14,966) and only won the silver medal (HCB). Meanwhile, the British athlete, Jake Jarman won the bronze medal (HCBD) with 14,933 points. Carlos Yulo's aforementioned gold medal helped him become the second athlete from the Philippines to win a gold medal at an Olympic Games. Previously, female athlete Hidilyn Diaz won a gold medal in the 55kg weightlifting category at the Tokyo Olympics 3 years ago. Carlos Yulo's gold medal is both the first gold medal and the first medal that a country in the Southeast Asian region won at the 2024 Paris Olympics after 8 days of competition. This gold medal also helped the Philippines rise to 32nd place in the medal table and become one of 39 sports delegations to win gold medals at the Paris Olympics. The 2024 Paris Olympics also witnessed 58 sports delegations winning medals, and in Southeast Asia alone, as of 10:00 p.m. on August 3 (Vietnam time), only the Philippines has won a medal.
