Tan Ky Tan Quy Street (Tan Phu District), considered one of the largest "grilled snakehead fish streets" in Ho Chi Minh City, is busy preparing goods for the God of Wealth's day (January 10).

On the afternoon of February 6 (January 9), the "grilled snakehead fish street" on Tan Ky Tan Quy Street (Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City) was filled with smoke as snakehead fish shops were busy preparing for the God of Wealth's day.

Shops here say most of the fish is imported from Binh Dien wholesale market or from the Western provinces.

Mr. Nguyen Trung, owner of a long-standing grilled snakehead fish shop, one of the largest on Tan Ky Tan Quy Street, said that this year his shop imported more than 2,000 fish from Binh Dien market (District 8).

"Every time the God of Wealth comes around, I will pre-order a large quantity of snakehead fish from traders. The fish will be transported this morning. After gathering the fish, the whole family will prepare and start the processing steps, then sell them to people," said Mr. Trung.

People from far away also come to this famous "grilled snakehead fish street" to buy fish. Many people share that they are trying to buy early this afternoon because tomorrow morning will be very crowded.

Snakehead fish weighing 1-2kg are cleaned and skewered with sugarcane sticks for grilling.

Next to the fish grilling area, employees are busy preparing herbs, mixing fish sauce, and putting vermicelli noodles in small bags to sell with grilled snakehead fish.

Grilled snakehead fish this year is sold for 200,000 - 220,000 VND/fish, served with vegetables and noodles.

After being grilled, the snakehead fish will be placed on shelves. The working atmosphere at the grilled snakehead fish shops here is always busy.

Thousands of grilled snakehead fish are neatly arranged on shelves, ready to be sold to people tomorrow morning, the day of God of Wealth.

Each batch of fish will be grilled for 35-40 minutes. Grilled snakehead fish does not need to be seasoned, grilled whole, the griller must constantly turn the fish to avoid burning.

On the 10th of January every year is the God of Wealth's day. According to folk customs, people often go shopping for offerings or buy gold to pray for luck and prosperity for the whole year.
