Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Lam: Do not be subjective about floods and rains

On October 25, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Lam directly surveyed the flood water level and agricultural production situation in communes in the Dong Thap Muoi region.

According to a quick report from the localities, the flood water level in some areas has exceeded the canal banks, overflowed into the rice fields, affecting the production areas of the people. Specifically, from Quang Cut canal to Op canal in Kien Tuong ward, many sections of water have overflowed the banks, causing widespread flooding. Local authorities and people are urgently reinforcing and protecting about 800 hectares of rice that are 40-45 days old.

In Tuyen Thanh commune, the whole commune has planted 7,200 hectares of rice, of which hundreds of hectares are at risk of being affected by rising floodwaters. The weak dykes, mainly concentrated in Go Ot, Ca Gua 3 and Ca Rua 4, are being urgently reinforced by forces and people to limit damage.

People participate in supporting the reinforcement of dike lines

In the Quoc Phong canal area in Binh Hiep commune alone, there are currently about 20 hectares of rice at risk of being completely lost because people arbitrarily sowed rice outside the dike area, not following the agricultural sector's crop schedule.

Through the survey, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Lam acknowledged and highly appreciated the proactive and responsible spirit of local authorities, functional forces and people in proactively responding and reinforcing dykes to protect production.

He emphasized: “Localities absolutely must not be negligent or subjective in flood prevention and control work; must be determined to protect the production area within the dike area. The province will have a long-term plan so that in the following years, flood prevention and control work will be more favorable, not as difficult as this year.”

Water levels are expected to peak and begin to fall in the next few days.

Currently, localities in the Dong Thap Muoi region are continuing to closely monitor the flood situation, mobilize local forces, promptly reinforce weak dykes, and protect production safety and people's lives./.
