Deputy Prime Minister requests Ministry of Health to report on fake medicine case before May 5

(PLVN) - In response to concerns from the public and the press about the emergence of fake medicines in many localities, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long requested the Ministry of Health to coordinate with relevant units to review, evaluate and propose effective prevention solutions, and report to the Prime Minister before May 5, 2025.

The Government Office has just issued document No. 3700/VPCP-KGVX conveying the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long on handling the issue of fake medicine.

Recently, after the production and trade of fake medicines were discovered in some localities, the press has published many articles reflecting people's concerns and frustrations about fake medicines, raising the need to promptly and effectively handle the problem of fake medicines.

Regarding this issue, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long directed the Ministry of Health to preside over and coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to urgently review and evaluate the current status of legal regulations and the situation and results of drug quality management and counterfeit drug prevention in the past time; have appropriate solutions, especially regarding the responsibility of drug suppliers in complying with pharmaceutical law and the responsibility of local authorities in improving the effectiveness of drug quality management and counterfeit drug prevention in the area; report the results to the Prime Minister before May 5, 2025.

The Ministry of Health continues to direct the promotion and improvement of the efficiency of connecting drug supply facilities, electronic medical records, and electronic prescriptions according to the Prime Minister's instructions in Directive No. 23/CT-TTg dated August 23, 2018, Directive No. 07/CT-TTg dated March 14, 2025 and in Official Dispatch No. 668/VPCP-KGVX dated January 24, 2025.

Previously, on April 17, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long signed Official Dispatch No. 41/CD-TTg on handling the case of manufacturing and trading in counterfeit medicines and health protection foods.
