Dr. Bui Thi Thu Trang, Head of the Examination Department, Provincial General Hospital, said: “In the past 2 weeks, the Provincial General Hospital has received 1,200 - 1,500 patients per day, an increase of more than 10% compared to the same period last month. The hospital has arranged 31 examination tables, opened 8 doors to receive patients, focusing on patient flow right from the reception stage. The staff, doctors, and nurses of the department go to work 30 minutes before office hours to promptly perform professional duties and serve people coming for medical examination.
During the changing seasons, some common infectious diseases are measles, mumps, dengue fever, hand-foot-mouth disease, Japanese encephalitis, digestive disorders, etc. People who are susceptible to the disease are people with weak immune systems, the elderly and children, and those with underlying diseases.
Infectious diseases can progress severely, causing widespread epidemics with increasing numbers of cases if not detected and controlled promptly. Therefore, during the changing seasons, people need to take good disease prevention measures to protect the health of themselves, their families and the community.
Assessing that the Covid-19 epidemic tends to re-emerge with the number of cases increasing in a number of countries around the world, the Ministry of Health has recently requested localities to strengthen supervision, closely monitor the epidemic situation, deploy disease prevention and control measures at medical facilities and in the community; be ready to admit, provide emergency care, and effectively treat infected cases.
The Ministry of Health recommends that people wear masks in public places, limit gatherings in crowded places; wash hands regularly with clean water, soap or antiseptic solution; increase physical activity, physical training, and proper nutrition; when showing signs of illness, go immediately to a medical facility for timely examination and treatment.
Regarding the Covid-19 epidemic situation in the province, according to statistics from the provincial Center for Disease Control, since the beginning of the year, only 1 case has been recorded. Following the direction of the Ministry of Health, the unit has stepped up propaganda for people to implement disease prevention measures.
Dangerous infectious diseases with a high number of cases recently are measles, seasonal flu, diarrhea, chickenpox... For measles, the total number of recorded cases is nearly 200 cases; the subjects are mainly young children. Many cases were detected late and not treated promptly, causing complications such as otitis media, pneumonia, encephalitis, and meningitis in children.
In order to protect children's health, following the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, medical units have organized two large-scale measles vaccination campaigns. After completing the two campaigns, the measles vaccination rate for children aged 6 months or older reached 95.5%; for children aged 6 to under 9 months reached 97%; for children aged 1-5 years old reached 97.8%; for children aged 6-10 years old reached 97.7%; and for children aged 11-15 years old reached 98%.
Two measles vaccination campaigns were carried out effectively, contributing to increasing immunity in the community. Vaccination was carried out safely, with no recorded incidents of vaccination affecting children's health.
To effectively control epidemics arising in the community during the changing seasons and protect people's health, the Provincial People's Committee directed the Department of Health to develop plans and strategies to proactively control the epidemic situation; effectively carry out the work of admission, emergency care and treatment for patients; increase the effectiveness of communication on disease prevention measures; improve the capacity of medical staff; improve the effectiveness of vaccination programs; review and ensure logistics, funding, drugs, vaccines, biological products, medical supplies, chemicals, equipment, human resources and means to meet the requirements of disease prevention and control according to the "4 on-site" motto.
People's Committees of districts, cities and related sectors coordinate with the health sector to strengthen disease prevention and control in schools; promptly detect infectious diseases in animals that are at risk of spreading to humans; communicate andeducate , disseminate knowledge, raise awareness, change people's behavior and habits in disease prevention and control.
