Reader LTH (35 years old, living in Khanh Hoa ) asked: Doctor, please tell me if I have oral sex and then rinse my mouth with antiseptic solution, is there a risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases?

Specialist Doctor 2 Doan Van Loi Em, Head of Clinical Department 3 - Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital, replied: Oral sex has not been proven to cause disease if you rinse your mouth with antiseptic solution after sex. Because pathogens can enter deep structures such as the vagina, cervix, and urethra.

In the past, with oral sex, there were some opinions that using antiseptic water helps prevent sexually transmitted diseases, especially gonorrhea. However, current studies show that there is still not enough evidence to defend this view.

Currently, the world has discovered more than 20 sexually transmitted diseases. In Vietnam, common sexually transmitted diseases are gonorrhea, Chlamydia, genital herpes, genital warts, syphilis, hepatitis B, HIV... If not treated promptly, many diseases can cause dangerous complications.

Therefore, if you have sex, you should use condoms. Although condoms do not completely prevent sexually transmitted diseases, they are still one of the methods of disease prevention. However, you should also pay attention to choosing condoms made from latex, of the right size, intact, unused and used correctly to prevent disease.
