As one of the three facilities for teaching culture, life skills, rehabilitation and vocational education for children with disabilities in our province, over the past 12 years, Tuong Lai Special Education School has become a "trusted address" to help students with disabilities in the province have the opportunity to go to school. Teacher Nguyen Thi Loan, Principal of Tuong Lai Special Education School shared: The school currently has 8 staff, teachers and employees responsible for raising 58 children with disabilities from 4 to 9 years old. To facilitate teaching, the school divides students into 2 groups based on their level and type of disability, including the group with hearing impairment and the group with developmental delays such as Down syndrome, autism, intellectual disability, hyperactivity... With many different types of disabilities and ages, the students are taught according to the specialized program of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Students of the hearing impaired class at Tuong Lai Special Education School performed on the occasion of International Children's Day.
In order to improve the quality of education, at the beginning of each school year, the school assigns teachers to test their level, plan teaching, and set requirements and training goals for each student. In each lesson, teachers use equipment and visual teaching aids to help students absorb better. In addition, teachers integrate skills related to daily life, helping students increase their ability to take care of themselves when necessary... For hearing-impaired children, the school invests in a soundproof room to teach them to listen and speak, combining teaching oral language, conversation, and reducing sign language. For the slow-developing class, students learn 4 skills: Self-reliance, communication, movement, and culture; in which, special attention is paid to the skills of "self-reliance" and "communication" to help them integrate and be able to take care of themselves. In order to guide children towards comprehensive development, in addition to cultural study time, the school also focuses on nurturing additional gifted subjects such as: playing instruments, drumming, dancing... In addition, the school regularly organizes cultural and artistic exchanges, creating a healthy playground for children to have the opportunity to express themselves. Thanks to the care and thoughtful teaching of the teaching staff, after a period of time, most children have developed self-service skills, knowing how to take care of themselves, eat and drink as well as clean the classroom, knowing how to preserve and maintain their books and school supplies. For example, Minh Ngoc, Son Ca's class, from a child with abnormal development, now knows how to help teachers clean the house, share rice... Inclusive education creates opportunities for children with disabilities to go to school, to access equal education without distinction of physical, intellectual, emotional or linguistic.
Implementing the Project to support children with disabilities to access protection, care and education services in the community, in addition to access to education, children with disabilities are also cared for with many practical policies and activities. The whole province currently has over 1,000 children with disabilities, up to now 100% of children enjoy social allowance policies; are supported with health insurance. They regularly organize screening, early detection and help children with disabilities access health care, nutrition and rehabilitation services. To help, protect and care for children with disabilities, every year, the Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs (LĐ-TB&XH) focuses on building a network of social work collaborators at the grassroots level. To date, the whole province has developed 46 collaborators to assess issues related to children with disabilities such as: Helping children with disabilities access protection, care and education services in the community; completing application files for social protection benefits; Paying the right benefits on time and in the right way. In addition, the province also conducts training and provides knowledge, skills in approaching, consulting, supporting care and protection of children with disabilities for staff working in child care. At the same time, mobilize organizations and philanthropists to visit and give gifts on holidays, New Year, Day for People with Disabilities (April 18), International Children's Day (June 1) to children with disabilities in especially difficult circumstances, encouraging them to have more will and determination to rise up in life.
Comrade Nguyen Van Binh, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, said: Caring for, educating and protecting children in general, and children with disabilities in particular, is a meaningful and humane work, demonstrating the fine traditions of our nation. Children with disabilities are the subjects that the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs pays special attention to. In recent times, the Department has regularly promoted the dissemination of the Project to support children with disabilities in accessing protection, care and education services in the community, thereby raising social awareness of children's rights, and at the same time, actively mobilizing all levels and sectors to join hands in protecting and caring for children, especially children with disabilities.
The care and sharing of all levels, sectors and the social community is the driving force to help children with disabilities and their families overcome their inferiority complex, overcome difficulties to become useful citizens, and take control of their own lives.
