On July 15, fishermen in the coastal areas of Quang Phu, Quang Dong, Canh Duong, and Quang Xuan communes (Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province) said that in recent days, large schools of sea shrimp have appeared densely, bringing in a significant source of income when fishing close to shore.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hien, Chairman of Quang Dong Commune People's Committee, said that this year's sea shrimp season is close to shore, making it convenient for fishermen to catch. Recently, people have taken advantage of the dense schools of sea shrimp to go out to sea to scoop them up to sell and make dried shrimp to increase the value of the product.
To catch sea shrimp, fishermen only need to use a thin net attached to an iron frame with a wooden handle about 1.5m long. When going to sea, fishermen often go "backwards" dragging the trap, and the shrimp will automatically fall into the net. This year, sea shrimp have just had a good season and are priced from 15,000 - 30,000 VND/kg depending on the type, so fishermen can earn millions of dong every day.

Women take advantage of the opportunity to bring shrimp to shore |
Fisherman Le Van Thiet, who fishes nearby, said: "There are shrimp every day. Depending on the tide, if the water is clear, they can easily reach the shore and be raked by fishermen. If the water is muddy, they can stay offshore and people use boats to catch them. In the past few days, many people have caught more than 100 kg, giving them a good income."
Fishermen excited about early shrimp season |
It is known that the harvest season of coastal shrimp is from the 6th lunar month to the 9th lunar month. This year the shrimp appeared early because there are many planktons near the shore, so they come to feed, creating favorable conditions for fishermen to catch them.
