The event of Quang Duong being removed from the PPA (Professional Pickleball Association) rankings by UPA caused a heated debate in the Pickleball community.
Meanwhile, Quang Duong’s family, specifically the 2006-born prodigy and his father – Mr. Duc Duong – did not pay much attention. Mr. Duc said he gave full authority to the lawyer to work with UPA.
Being banned from competing as an exclusive athlete by UPA seemed to be in Quang Duong's father's prediction. This was bound to happen sooner or later as the Vietnamese pickleball market was too attractive to them.
According to TheKitchenPickleball, Quang Duong only receives $300,000/year (nearly VND8 billion) when playing pickleball in the US. While representing a Vietnamese player, Duong receives more than $500,000/year (about VND13 billion).
Of course, Quang Duong not only signed a representative contract with a Vietnamese brand but also many other promotional contracts, notably the deal with Wika pickleball in 2025.
Therefore, Quang Duong had to arrange his schedule and take a leave from competing in the US to return to Vietnam. His schedule is packed every time he returns, with events to exchange, practice and sign autographs to raise funds for pickleball.
On March 16, Quang Duong had 3 fan meetings from noon to evening. Today, July 17, he played with famous pickleball players at the Saigon – City of Rally event.
Quang Duong seems calm about the UPA's punishment. He announced the remaining schedule for July to his fans. Specifically, he will return to Hanoi from July 18 to 23 and Da Lat and Pleiku from July 23 to 27.
The 19-year-old player's appeal is growing and Quang Duong's strategy to promote his image in Vietnam is becoming clearer. The Vietnamese pickleball market is currently considered to be developing rapidly.
