In recent years, Quang Binh Irrigation Works Management and Operation Company has applied technology to the management and operation of irrigation reservoirs in the area. Thereby, promoting investment capital, increasing production and service efficiency.

At irrigation projects with very large capacity managed by the unit such as Phu Vinh Lake, Rao Da Lake, Thac Chuoi Lake, etc., the company has integrated technology in operation and exploitation.
Phu Vinh reservoir project has a capacity of over 22.3 million m3, irrigating over 900 hectares of rice in two crops and providing domestic water for Dong Hoi city (old) with a total of 6.7 million m3 of water per year. Application software is installed with the devices. After having specific data on the water level in the reservoir and the capacity in the reservoir when it rains, management staff will use that data to know if the reservoir is overflowing, must release overflow or warn of risks of dam overflow, dam break or flooding downstream.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van, Head of Phu Vinh Irrigation Branch (under Quang Binh Irrigation Works Management and Exploitation Company), the application of technology and basic software has solved problems related to the management and operation of reservoirs during the flood season.
In actual operation, technology has calculated and warned in advance of risks of dam failures and construction safety caused by floods.
“Based on that, the irrigation reservoir management unit proposes different operational solutions to increase efficiency in irrigation tasks, serve agricultural production, life and minimize damage to works and people,” said Mr. Van.

Applying technology to the operation of irrigation reservoirs has also reduced work pressure for units and management staff and created high efficiency in production and service.
Mr. Dinh Sy Thai, manager of Phu Vinh irrigation lake, said that before technology and software were available, people had to brave the rain and wind to go to the lake's surface to monitor the techniques, which was quite difficult and dangerous.
"Now, even when on duty during storms and floods, we still have very accurate technical parameters to grasp the situation and have a plan for further handling," Mr. Thai added.
Rao Da irrigation reservoir has a capacity of over 82 million m3, and is considered the largest reservoir in Quang Tri province at present. Mr. Hoang Sy Hung, Quang Ninh Irrigation Branch (in charge of managing Rao Da irrigation reservoir), said that thanks to the application of technology in operation, the project is always safe during the flood season, ensuring irrigation water for agricultural production and domestic water in the area.

Talking to us, Mr. Hoang Kim Dai, Deputy Director of Quang Binh Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited, said that the unit is assigned to manage and exploit 35 irrigation works in the old Quang Binh province. The unit has gradually applied technology to increase production efficiency.
“Our company is continuing to apply high technology and techniques to the operation, management and exploitation of the remaining irrigation works to increasingly improve efficiency in production, service and contribute to minimizing damage in natural disaster prevention,” Mr. Hoang Kim Dai added.
