Quang Tri: More than 3,600 houses flooded due to prolonged heavy rain

According to the Quang Tri Province Civil Defense Command, as of 4 p.m. on October 31, more than 3,608 houses with over 11,282 people were flooded in the province. The whole province recorded 3 deaths, 1 missing person and 3 injured people due to floods.

The most severe flooding occurred in Quang Trach commune, where 1,200 houses with 3,400 people were flooded from 0.5 to 1.5 meters; Trung Thuan commune, where 800 houses were flooded from 0.3 to 1.5 meters; Nam Hai Lang commune, where 603 houses were flooded from 1 to 1.5 meters; Dien Sanh commune, where 171 houses were flooded from 0.2 to 0.4 meters... The whole province had over 103 locations with 28,513 students having to temporarily stop going to school due to floods.

In addition, in Quang Tri province, there are currently 28 flooded points on National Highways and Provincial Roads (10 points on National Highways, 18 points on Provincial Roads). Over 96 flooded points are in the culverts in mountainous areas and inter-commune and village traffic routes in the communes of Kim Phu, Ninh Chau, Bac Gianh, Ba Don, Kim Ngan, Hoan Lao, Tuyen Binh, Nam Hai Lang, My Thuy, Dien Sanh, etc.

At overflow tunnels, flooded roads, landslide-prone areas, and dangerous areas, units and localities have proactively deployed guards and arranged barriers, warning signs, etc. to ensure the safety of people and vehicles. At the same time, they are ready to deploy plans to evacuate people from dangerous areas when the situation arises.

Currently, Quang Tri province has evacuated 518 households/1,558 people in the communes: Quang Trach, Tuyen Phu, Dan Hoa, Ba Long, Nam Hai Lang, My Thuy, Dakrong, Dien Sanh, Trung Thuan, Nam Gianh, Avao Border Guard Station Area; La Lay International Border Guard Station, Bo Trach, Dong Le... At the concentrated evacuation points, local authorities have ensured adequate necessities, drinking water, medicine... to make people feel secure while evacuating.

The province directs units and localities to regularly update natural disaster situations and forecasts and warnings on mass media, websites, and social networks to the community to proactively develop response plans to flood situations.
