According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the whole province currently has more than 126,700 hectares of natural forest and nearly 122,300 hectares of planted forest. Of which, about 47,200 hectares of planted forest are in key areas prone to forest fires with tree species such as acacia, pine, and tung.
Since the beginning of April, the weather has started to have hot days, with the potential risk of forest fires. The Department of Agriculture and Environment has directed the Forest Protection Department to proactively deploy measures to strengthen forest fire prevention and fighting (PCCCR); announce forest fire forecast levels in the whole province, post information on the provincial IOC system (when the risk of forest fires is level III or higher); organize PCCCR on duty according to regulations; conduct reviews, assessments, and propose to strengthen forest fire fighting equipment for the 2025 dry season; organize training courses on forest fire fighting with motor vehicles for grassroots forest protection forces in Vinh Linh district; advise the Provincial Steering Committee 809 to inspect forest fire prevention and fighting in Huong Hoa, Trieu Phong and Gio Linh districts.
The units under the Forest Protection Department have advised the District People's Committee to review and strengthen the members of the steering committees, review, develop and implement the approved PCCCR plan. Proactively maintain vehicles and equipment to serve forest fire fighting well and organize on-duty and ready forces to serve PCCCR work.
Directing local forest rangers to advise on revising and developing commune-level forest fire prevention and control plans; strengthening mass forest protection and forest fire prevention and control teams. Thanks to that, up to now, there have only been 3 fires in the province, including 1 at Bac Huong Hoa Nature Reserve in Huong Lap Commune, Huong Hoa District; 2 understory fires in Trieu Co Commune, Trieu Phong District, and forces and means have been mobilized to extinguish them promptly, without causing damage to the forest.
Concluding the inspection trip, Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam noted that the functional forces need to continue to focus on warning work; increase the application of information technology such as remote sensing and GIS to build a synchronous and complete forest fire warning system to promptly detect when forest fires occur.
Continue to focus on the “4 on-site” motto in forest fire prevention and control; improve the mechanism for receiving and processing information between forest fire fighting forces to ensure smooth communication. Review forest fire prevention and control plans; note that there must be a plan to mobilize forces from surrounding provinces, including Laos, when large forest fires occur.
Strengthen propaganda and mobilization to raise awareness and responsibility of forest owners and people such as not burning vegetation during the dry season, building firebreaks...; strictly punish violations according to regulations. Proactively allocate funds to regularly repair vehicles and equipment, and organize training for fire prevention and control forces.
Emphasizing that this is the dry season, when forest fires are likely to occur, and at the same time, it is also the time to reorganize the local government apparatus into two levels. Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to take a step forward in coordinating with localities to immediately consolidate and perfect the 809 commune-level steering committees to ensure regular and smooth operations in forest protection and forest fire prevention and control.
