Telesur TV reported that in a video posted on the social network Telegram , Mr. Maduro stressed that "we will protect the borders, the coast, the cities and the vital points of the country. All will unite to ensure peace and national sovereignty , as well as the implementation of true democracy."
He also affirmed that Venezuela will demonstrate its ability to live in peace, fully exercise sovereignty, democracy and freedom.
Last week, Mr Maduro ordered the Armed Forces and police forces to prepare to “load their rifles” in response to “criminal threats” from former Colombian Presidents Álvaro Uribe and Iván Duque, who have recently advocated “international intervention” against Caracas.
The leader called on the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) as well as "all intelligence and counterintelligence police forces" and "the entire popular government" not to let down their guard and to continue implementing plans to "win over fascism".
The Venezuelan president, who was inaugurated for a third term as head of state on January 10, ordered the military to continue deploying FANB Rapid Response Units to closely monitor all border crossings with neighboring Colombia and Brazil.
On January 11, Mr. Uribe called for international intervention in Venezuela to remove Mr. Maduro. Mr. Maduro immediately responded, saying that Venezuela was prepared to “take up arms” if necessary, to defend the “right to peace.”
