Implementing the National Assembly's foreign affairs program in 2025, at the invitation of the Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives, on May 25, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the Vietnamese National Assembly delegation led by Party Central Committee member and Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Vu Hong Thanh attended the preparatory meeting for the meeting of leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) - ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) within the framework of the 46th ASEAN Summit and related Summits.
The session was chaired by Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives Johari bin Abdul, President of AIPA-46, with the participation of Presidents, Vice Presidents and leaders of the Parliaments of ASEAN countries and Timor-Leste.
Earlier, in the morning of the same day, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Vu Hong Thanh attended a working breakfast between the Chairman of the Malaysian House of Representatives and the Heads of the National Assembly delegations of the countries.
In his opening remarks, the Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives highlighted the significance of the ASEAN-AIPA Leaders’ Meeting, which is a key forum for senior leaders of the two executive and legislative branches to discuss emerging issues in the region, while strengthening policy and action coordination to achieve the set goals and priorities; thereby affirming that the preparatory meeting has the important task of discussing and unifying AIPA’s message to ASEAN leaders.
Discussing at the meeting, the Heads of the National Assembly delegations of the countries shared and highly appreciated the theme and priorities on inclusiveness and sustainability proposed by Malaysia for the ASEAN Chairmanship Year and AIPA Chairmanship; affirmed the important significance of the meeting between ASEAN-AIPA leaders in enhancing dialogue and cooperation between the legislative and executive branches; agreed on the need to build an inclusive and comprehensive message, representing the will and aspirations of more than 670 million ASEAN people to send to the leaders.

The meeting discussed and unanimously approved the content of the AIPA President's message, which affirmed support for the theme of Inclusiveness and Sustainability of the ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2025, welcomed the adoption of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 by ASEAN leaders and committed to working with governments to realize the goals and priorities set out in the Vision.
Based on the theme of this year's AIPA, ASEAN Parliaments at the forefront for an inclusive and sustainable ASEAN growth, the message affirms that AIPA will continue to promote its role in promoting regional connectivity and integration, raising the voice of the people and enhancing people-to-people exchanges.
AIPA will also continue to promote the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), sub-regional cooperation, harmoniously handle the relationship between food-energy-water security, environmental protection; call for enhanced cooperation to respond to non-traditional security challenges...
