Launching the Community Food Warehouse & Organizing "Mid-Autumn Festival of Love" for more than 500 disadvantaged children in Quang Binh province

On September 26, the Vietnam Food Bank, with the goal of “Leaving no one behind”, coordinated with the Quang Binh Red Cross to launch the first Community Food Bank and Community Food Club in the Central region, specifically Quang Binh province. At the same time, the program “Mid-Autumn Festival of Love” was organized for more than 500 disadvantaged children in the province.

The world is still witnessing a paradox of a high proportion of the population living in poverty, while in many places food is wasted, causing resource loss and environmental impacts. According to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, global food systems are out of balance despite the fact that the world has become more modern and materially abundant up to now.

According to the cited figures, more than 780 million people are facing food shortages, while about 30% of the world's food is still wasted or lost. Furthermore, about 462 million people in the world are malnourished, while about 2 billion people are overweight or obese. The World Food Programme (WFP) also estimates that about 691-783 million people will face hunger in 2022 due to many negative impacts and disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, natural disasters, etc.

Food Bank Vietnam - Food Bank Vietnam, established in 2016, is a non-profit organization operating with the goal of providing and supporting food for people in difficult circumstances in life, while promoting positive solutions to reduce food waste. Quang Binh is a province that regularly faces the direct impact of natural disasters every year such as storms, floods and droughts,... According to the survey, rural areas, remote areas with uneven economic development, still have many obstacles in growth in terms of quality of life and security. These factors have caused severe damage to food supplies and made it difficult for many households and individuals to access safe and secure food.

With the vision and goal of providing good food support for individuals and households to overcome material difficulties and fight poverty, providing emergency food support in response to natural disasters, floods, etc., the Le Thuy Community Food Store and Community Food Club, Quang Binh province has been officially launched to the people. Specifically, the targeted support objects will be vulnerable people in need, homeless people, lonely elderly people, orphanages, shelters, open houses, people in difficult areas in remote areas, those who have suffered losses due to natural disasters and poor patients, etc. The event marks an important first step in supporting and creating a strong community with the spirit of joining hands to build prosperity and hope for those facing food shortages.
