Humanoid robot that can do housework, priced at 20,000 USD

(Dan Tri) - An American robot technology company has just launched a humanoid robot called Neo, with the advertisement that it can do all the housework for the user.

The humanoid robot, produced by 1X Technologies (Palo Alto, California, USA), is promoted as " the world's first product designed to change users' lives at home."

Neo has a humanoid appearance in a jumpsuit, weighs 30kg, and is 1.67m tall. The robot is equipped with an electric motor that can operate continuously for 4 hours after each charge, with the ability to lift a maximum weight of 70kg and move a weight of up to 25kg.

In front of Neo are two wide-angle cameras with 8 megapixel resolution, which help to record the entire surrounding environment. Users can also observe remotely through these "eyes" of the robot. In addition, Neo is equipped with four microphones to record sound and receive commands, and three external speakers for communication with users.

According to the manufacturer, Neo can handle many household chores such as watering plants, cleaning, making coffee, vacuuming, operating the dishwasher... Users can command the robot by voice or control it via an application on the phone.

Notably, for complex tasks that the system has not been trained for, 1X Technologies integrates an “expert mode” into the robot. When this feature is activated, the company’s technical experts can monitor remotely to ensure the robot completes the job.

However, “expert mode” also raises privacy concerns, as the company’s employees can observe indoor spaces and listen to surrounding sounds through the robot’s built-in camera and microphone system.

1X Technologies explains that this feature is necessary to help robots become smarter and more complete.

“When you buy a product, you agree that we can access the robot remotely. Without user data, we cannot improve the product,” said Bernt Bornich, CEO of 1X Technologies.

There are also two LED rings on the Neo's body located at the ears. When the expert mode is activated, the light color will change to let the user know that the robot is being controlled or monitored remotely.

1X Technologies said it will sell the Neo robot first in the US market next year, before expanding to other markets. The robot will cost $20,000, or will be available as a rental for $499/month.

This is not a cheap price and many people will consider hiring a maid to do housework, rather than ordering a humanoid robot but facing the risk of being monitored remotely by strangers.
