Having been fishing for shrimp for about 20 years, Mr. Tran Van Quan - a resident of Cua Can commune ( Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang ) - said that from May to October every year, Bai Truong, Bai Dai... and many other beach areas in Phu Quoc city have a lot of shrimp.
At this time, he and the local people living by fishing nets are having a good harvest.
The shrimps returned, curled up bright red under the sea. The sea fishes also competed to hunt the shrimps, lighting up the water. People used nets, mosquito nets, etc. to surround and catch the shrimps at sea.
"My family sails along the coast and looks for areas where the water turns red, where there are shrimp. Only then do we put the net down and pull it up. If we're lucky, we can catch a ton of fresh shrimp...", Mr. Quan said.

According to Mr. Quan, in the past, there were "countless" shrimp in the Phu Quoc sea area. This year, there are still shrimp, but the output is much lower, down more than 50% compared to before, so he has been drifting on the sea, sailing along Bai Truong (from Duong Dong to An Thoi) to hunt for shrimp.
Diligence also earns 300 - 600kg of shrimp per day. He sells fresh shrimp for 5,000 VND/kg; dried shrimp for 80,000 VND/kg, contributing to stabilizing life.
According to Tuoi Tre Online , tourists often buy dried shrimp to eat and give as gifts to relatives and friends. Restaurants process them into many dishes such as fried shrimp with raw vegetables, dried shrimp stewed with pork fat, shrimp soup and shrimp paste.
Because shrimp are in high demand, when shrimp season comes, Mr. Quan and dozens of other fishermen in Phu Quoc still run boats and nets to catch shrimp, making the fishing grounds bustling.
"Catching shrimp in Phu Quoc is seasonal. During this time, catching shrimp is also a good way for fishermen to stabilize their livelihoods and ensure their family's life," said Mr. Le Dinh Quang, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Phu Quoc City.
