In recent years, Lai Chau ginseng has gradually asserted its position as a key crop, bringing stable income and creating sustainable livelihoods for people in the highlands. From experimental planting models to commodity development, ginseng has helped many households boldly change their crop structure, gradually rising out of poverty.

In many highland communes of the province, forest areas that were previously mainly used for traditional farming are now planned into ginseng gardens under the forest canopy. Thanks to the suitable climate and soil conditions, ginseng grows well, has high economic value, and has become the priority choice of many ethnic households. Some households with only a few thousand ginseng plants have incomes many times higher than those growing corn, cassava or raising small-scale livestock.

Along with the issuance of Resolution No. 17-NQ/TU on the development of Lai Chau ginseng in the period of 2024-2030, with a vision to 2035, the province identified this as a strategic industry associated with the goal of sustainable poverty reduction and forestry economic development. Localities are supported with techniques, guided on how to build ginseng gardens according to the correct process, granted growing area codes and promoted consumption linkages along the value chain.

Currently, many cooperatives and enterprises have joined in investing in association with people under the model of "enterprise - cooperative - ginseng growing household". People are trained in care techniques, provided with quality seedlings and stable product consumption. Thereby, helping to minimize risks, create trust for ginseng growers and encourage acreage expansion.

Along with its high economic value, Lai Chau ginseng also opens up the direction for developing eco -tourism and experiences in growing areas. Many ginseng growing areas have become community tourism products, contributing to increasing income, creating new jobs and promoting local services for the people. Development associated with the "One Commune One Product" (OCOP) Program also helps Lai Chau ginseng gradually build its brand, increase its value and expand its consumption market.

Despite many challenges such as high initial investment costs, strict technical requirements or long care time, the economic efficiency that ginseng brings has been clearly recorded. Many households have escaped poverty, many localities have more resources to develop forest economy, creating livelihoods suitable to highland conditions.

Mr. Le Van Luong, Chairman of Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee, said: The province is focusing on forming a ginseng growing area of about 3,000 hectares by 2030, aiming for a stable output of 30 tons/year. By 2035, Lai Chau ginseng strives to become a product with a strong brand, capable of participating in the export market, making an important contribution to the province's poverty reduction goal.

With the participation of the entire political system, specific support policies and the bold change in production thinking of the people, Lai Chau ginseng is opening a new door for the highland economy. Not only is it a crop with economic value, Lai Chau ginseng is also a symbol of the aspiration to rise up, to become rich legitimately in the homeland and to build a sustainable new countryside.
