On the afternoon of January 11, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang answered a reporter's question regarding the Irish police opening an investigation into human trafficking after 14 illegal immigrants, including three Vietnamese, were found inside a refrigerated container at the port of Rosslare.
Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that immediately after receiving the information, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs directed the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK and Northern Ireland, concurrently in Ireland, to contact local authorities to coordinate in finding out information and closely follow the investigation process of this incident.
Also following the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK and Northern Ireland is continuing to closely coordinate with local authorities to verify identities and is ready to take necessary citizen protection measures.
On the evening of January 9, Irish and British press reported that Irish police discovered 14 migrants, including 9 men, 3 women and 2 girls, hiding in a refrigerated truck when the vehicle was stopped at Rosslare Europort in Wexford County, Leinster Province, Southern Ireland, at around 3:00 a.m. on January 8 (local time).
These people are all in good health after medical examination.
Earlier, at around 1am on January 8, the British Coast Guard received an emergency call from a person inside a refrigerated truck while the vehicle was on a ferry from France to the port of Rosslare.
British and Irish authorities coordinated their actions and promptly intercepted the vehicle as soon as it arrived at the port.
Irish police have now launched an investigation into the incident and have so far made no arrests.
