Diverse goods

Many stalls selling moon cakes have been set up along Phan Chau Trinh, Huynh Thuc Khang, Tran Cao Van streets... (Tam Ky ward). According to observations, moon cakes are mainly sold by Kinh Do, Bibica, Dong Khanh... This year, the source of cakes is quite abundant, with a rich variety of types and diverse designs. Moon cake manufacturers design cake boxes and baskets with many eye-catching designs.

Ms. Truong Nguyen Ai My, who sells Kinh Do mooncakes on Phan Chau Trinh Street, said: “The company has many types of high-end mooncakes such as the golden mooncake and the dragon and fish-watching mooncake, which come in boxes of 4 cakes with tea and Mid-Autumn Festival greeting cards, priced from 500,000 VND/box to 1.5 million VND/box. In addition to retail, the company also sells wholesale to businesses, agencies, and units.”

According to records, this year's moon cakes are priced higher than in previous years. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc, a moon cake vendor on Huynh Thuc Khang Street, said that the high prices are mainly due to the increase in input materials. Ms. Ngoc said that although the moon cakes are just beginning to be in season, many customers have already come to buy and enjoy them.

“I sell mooncakes from many manufacturers. This year, there is fierce competition among mooncake manufacturers, and the price difference is not much. Manufacturers have invested heavily in designs, models, and packaging, making them sophisticated and attractive to stimulate shopping and consumption,” Ms. Ngoc said.

Bustling craft village

Loi Pho confectionery facility (An Lac village, Duy Nghia commune) is busy with production these days. Mr. Huynh Anh, owner of Loi Pho confectionery facility, said that his family produces green bean cakes, grilled coconut cakes, popped cakes, and rolled cakes to supply the market throughout the city and neighboring provinces.

“The cakes I produce are not as eye-catching as the industrial moon cakes of big brands. However, many consumers use our cakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival because the products do not contain preservatives, are made from clean ingredients, are carefully processed, and are food safe. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, cakes sell well, so we increase production frequency to meet market demand,” said Mr. Anh.

The traditional cake-making village of An Lac village was formed decades ago and has been maintained until now. Previously, people made cakes by hand and now they have started to invest in machinery and equipment to reduce labor, increase productivity, and bring better quality products. The village currently has 10 households producing moon cakes.

Mr. Do Van Viet, Vice Chairman of Duy Nghia Commune People's Committee, said that An Lac's cakes are facing great competition from similar products on the market, especially in terms of price. The preservation of An Lac's cake-making craft village to this day is a great effort of the local households. I hope that the city's industry and trade sector will pay attention and support industrial promotion and trade promotion so that the villagers can invest in new machinery, equipment and technology to improve product quality and expand the consumption market.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Son, Head of the Market Management Department of Da Nang City, said that the functional sector is closely coordinating with relevant agencies to conduct synchronous and regular inspection and supervision of moon cakes on the market, especially during the peak period from now until the Mid-Autumn Festival. The leaders of the city's market management sector are determined not to let low-quality moon cakes, moon cakes that do not ensure food hygiene and safety, fake moon cakes, and moon cakes of unknown origin enter the market.
