Farmers need to regularly visit fields to promptly detect and prevent pests and diseases.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, up to now, the whole province has planted more than 133,000/217,300 hectares of rice for the 2025 winter-spring crop, reaching more than 61% of the whole crop sowing plan, concentrated in the districts of Dong Thap Muoi region of the province; more than 21,000 hectares have been harvested, the dry rice yield is estimated at 6.8 tons/ha, the output is more than 143,000 tons.
Most of the rice area is in the seedling and tillering stage . Currently, the rice crop is growing well and farmers are actively taking care of it. Pests and diseases at the beginning of the 2025 winter-spring rice crop are at a low rate.
Specifically, harmful organisms such as brown planthoppers (162ha), rice blast disease (80ha), golden apple snails (415ha), rats (235ha), thrips (35ha), alum poisoning (10ha), etc. cause damage to rice fields at the seedling, tillering, and panicle stages, concentrated in the districts of Tan Hung, Vinh Hung, Moc Hoa, Duc Hue, and Duc Hoa.
Mr. Nguyen Van Bo (Hung Thanh commune, Tan Hung district) said: "In the 2025 winter-spring crop, my family produced 4 hectares of rice. Up to this point, the rice is more than 40 days old, and there have been no signs of pests or diseases on the rice crop. The rice is currently growing well."
Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tan Hung district - Phan Van Ni informed: Up to this point, farmers in the district have planted more than 32,500/37,000 hectares of HT 2025 rice, reaching nearly 88% of the plan. The main varieties chosen by farmers for this crop are OM5451, OM18, Nang Hoa 9, Dai Thom 8, ST24, RVT,... Currently, the rice crop is growing well, thanks to prevention and control work right from the beginning of the crop, so pests and diseases cause little damage, mainly brown planthoppers, leaf blast, stem borers, causing light damage.
According to the forecast of the industry in the coming time , the golden apple snail, thrips, rats, etc. will increase the infected area on rice in the seedling stage. The leaf blast disease, rats, leaf rollers, stem borers, brown planthoppers, etc. will increase the infected area on rice in the tillering and panicle initiation stages./.
