Low selling price, late durian season, low first season harvest, so many gardeners in the province let the durian fall and sell it at high retail prices. Currently, grade 1 ripe Ri6 durian sold in the garden costs about 85,000 VND/kg, the smaller type costs about 60,000 VND/kg. Fallen Thai durian costs 100,000 VND/kg, much higher than old cut durian that has been ripened.
According to durian retailers, consumers increasingly prefer durians that have fallen from the garden and are willing to pay higher prices to buy them. In addition to the reason that naturally fallen durians have better quality, there is also the issue of food safety because they are not treated with chemicals during the ripening process.
