Within the framework of the festival, there will be many unique cultural, sports , and tourism activities. The Three-Country Ball-Throwing Festival of Vietnam, Laos, and China is a special cultural festival, held every two years, with localities sharing a border in the three countries of Vietnam, Laos, and China taking turns hosting it.

This is a political and cultural event of special significance aimed at strengthening solidarity and friendship, expanding exchanges, cooperation, and people-to-people diplomacy among border localities. It is an opportunity to promote the unique traditional cultural beauty of the ethnic groups of the three countries, introduce tourism potential, and expand cooperation opportunities; contributing to building a peaceful , stable, friendly, cooperative, and sustainably developing border between the Party committees, governments, and people of the border regions of Vietnam, Laos, and China.
The festival was attended by delegations from Dien Bien and Lai Chau provinces; delegations from Phongsaly province (Lao People's Democratic Republic); and delegations from Jiangcheng County, Pu'er City, Yunnan Province (People's Republic of China).
The festival is expected to attract around 1,200 delegates, artisans, athletes, and support staff.
With the theme "Unity, Friendship - Deepening Border Relations - Developing Together," the festival will take place over three days (from December 19 to 21, 2025) in Dien Bien Phu ward, Dien Bien province.

The festival includes a series of rich cultural, sports, and tourism activities, reflecting the traditional cultural identity of the ethnic groups and localities of the three countries, such as: the opening ceremony with a spectacular artistic program showcasing the beauty of the land, people, potential, and strengths, spreading and honoring the good and lasting friendship and solidarity between the localities in particular, and between Vietnam and Laos and China in general.
The program includes cultural exchange and traditional costume performances; an exhibition space showcasing and promoting cultural and tourism products, and a photo exhibition; cultural exchange and competition activities in sports such as throwing the ball, stick pushing, crossbow shooting, spinning top, tug-of-war, and pickleball; and a Famtrip program to survey tourism products and meet with travel service businesses from the three countries.
With its rich and diverse cultural activities, the 9th "Throwing the Ball" Festival of Vietnam, Laos, and China, to be held in Dien Bien province in 2025, promises to offer a unique and memorable experience for the people, friends, and tourists.
