After winning a convincing gold medal in the 5,000m event, on the afternoon of December 15th, Nguyen Thi Oanh competed in the next event, the 10,000m. With no rivals in the region, the runner born in 1995 only needed to perform to her full potential to secure her second gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games .
Besides Nguyen Thi Oanh, on December 15th, the athletics team still has many hopes for gold medals in the long jump (men), 400m hurdles (women), 800m women, and especially the 4x100m women's relay.

According to Nguyen Manh Hung, Secretary General of the Vietnam Athletics Federation, the competition for the top spot in the athletics events is very intense between Vietnam and Thailand in the final days of the competition. Currently, Thailand has 9 gold medals, while Vietnam has 5; however, the strong events that have yet to be competed in could help the Vietnamese athletics team make a breakthrough.
In swimming, the Vietnamese swimming team could contribute 2-3 gold medals, in the men's 50m breaststroke (Pham Thanh Bao), men's 200m backstroke (Hung Nguyen), and men's 400m freestyle (Nguyen Huy Hoang).
Shooting is also highly anticipated, with two of Vietnam's top shooters, Pham Quang Huy and Trinh Thu Vinh, competing in the 10m mixed team pistol event. Earlier on December 14th, Thu Vinh won two gold medals and broke two SEA Games records.

Other sports that could contribute gold medals to the Vietnamese sports delegation include wushu with 7 final events, weightlifting (3 weight categories), petanque, cycling, etc.
Notably, the Vietnam U22 team will face the Philippines U22 team in the men's football semi-finals, while the women's volleyball final will be a highly anticipated match between the Vietnam women's volleyball team and host nation Thailand.
As of December 14th, the Vietnamese sports delegation is temporarily ranked 3rd in the medal standings with 34 gold medals, 34 silver medals, and 53 bronze medals, 9 gold medals behind Indonesia. If they perform to their full potential and are lucky, Vietnamese athletes could win around 10 gold medals today, giving them a chance to move up to 2nd place in the coming days.
