South China Morning Post reported on March 28 that the shocking incident occurred in a village in Songming district, Yunnan province, China .
Surveillance camera footage shows a girl and a boy playing around two wells in the village on March 8 when the girl suddenly picked up the boy and dropped him into the well.
The boy then used his hand to hold onto the well but was immediately pushed away by the girl, causing her to fall into the well. The well was 5 meters deep, the water level was 2 meters deep.
"The girl then walked around the well for a while before leaving the scene," said Tung Minh district police.

The victim was lucky to escape when villagers heard his cries for help coming from the bottom of the well. A young man tied a rope around his waist, helping him float before pulling him to safety after about 10 minutes.
"The boy only had a slight cold and cough, probably due to drinking some well water," a local woman said, adding, "The two children's families are neighbors, and before the incident they often played together."
The 7-year-old girl confessed that she threw the 4-year-old boy down the well because she imitated a scene she saw in a TV series.
"The mother bears the consequences," local authorities said, adding that the girl's family gave the boy's family thousands of yuan and some food as an apology.
On March 10, the girl’s family also took the boy for a medical check-up and was confirmed to be unharmed. Local officials also said that the families have now resolved all matters related to the two children.
"The girl also realized she had done something wrong. The two children were too young to be aware of the danger," the officer added.

In a statement, local police urged the public not to post videos of the incident to prevent copycats. It is unclear whether the girl or her family will face any charges.
The above story has caused a social media storm in China with 100 million followers on Weibo and 10 million views on Douyin.
