Soc Trang: Training to help ethnic minority women develop safe economy in cyberspace

The Soc Trang Provincial Women's Union has just coordinated with the Vietnam Women's Academy to organize a training course on "Application of information technology for start-ups and online businesses, helping ethnic minority women develop their economy safely in cyberspace by 2025".

The training course was attended by more than 100 delegates who are officials, members, and women from the areas implementing Project 8 "Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children" under the National Target Program on Socio -Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period, phase 1 from 2021-2025.

At the program, delegates were provided with information related to the main contents including: Common applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in online business; Applications of AI in marketing, sales and content design; Applications of AI in business analysis and management.

In addition, participating in the training, delegates also had access to knowledge and skills on applying information technology in start-up activities; shifting business from direct to online requires business people and start-ups to keep up with trends; solutions to promote marketing of members, women, especially women in ethnic minority areas to develop the economy safely in cyberspace.

In particular, the knowledge helps members and women exploit the advantages and potentials of local resources, making full use of the benefits of technology such as: applying artificial intelligence in propaganda, product promotion, building product images, etc.

According to the Soc Trang Provincial Women's Union, the training program contributes to equipping women, especially women in ethnic minority areas, with the necessary knowledge and skills to utilize technology safely and effectively, thereby developing their personal and community economies in a sustainable way. It helps women improve their digital capacity, confidently start and do business online. This will be an important first step for women to not only take control of their economy but also improve their position in the family and community, contributing to narrowing the digital gap and promoting gender equality.

Soc Trang province has a population of over 1.2 million people, a province with a large number of ethnic minorities. Of which, the Khmer ethnic group accounts for 30.18% of the population, the Chinese ethnic group accounts for 5.2% of the population, and other ethnic groups account for 0.03% of the population. Project 8 activities are carried out in 42 communes of 9 districts and towns in the province, including the districts of Tran De, Thanh Tri, My Tu, Ke Sach, Long Phu, Chau Thanh, My Xuyen and the two towns of Vinh Chau and Nga Nam.

Up to now, the core contents and targets of Project 8 set out in phase 1 (from 2021 - 2025) have achieved positive results. The Provincial Women's Union has organized propaganda and advocacy activities to change "thinking and ways of doing" to contribute to eliminating gender prejudices and stereotypes in families and communities, harmful cultural practices and some urgent social issues for women and children.
