At around 2:00 a.m. on May 7, Chieng Coi Ward Police, Son La City coordinated with the Ward People's Committee, Ward Health Department , and security forces at the Chieng Coi Ward base to inspect vegetables, tubers, and fruits at Me Ban Night Market, Chieng Coi Ward, Son La City.

Through sampling and testing of vegetables, tubers, and fruits from traders and people gathering at the Me Ban night market area. This is also a famous wholesale market area in Son La city that has been operating for nearly 20 years.

Accordingly, the authorities discovered and seized more than 900 kg of vegetables, tubers, and fruits of various types that tested positive for toxic substances to destroy them according to regulations.

Through working with the authorities, traders and people who specialize in trading and doing business in this wholesale market area said: The above vegetables, tubers and fruits are imported from some communes of Mai Son district and from the lowlands, gathered at this wholesale market area, then brought to large and small markets in Son La city to sell to consumers.

Professional agencies took samples right at the Me Ban wholesale market area, Chieng Coi commune, Son La city.

Among the vegetables, tubers and fruits, after testing, it was found that there were very high levels of residual pesticides, such as squash, pumpkin, cucumber, chayote, mustard greens, lemon, kumquat, orange, melon, mango...

According to a member of the delegation, there are still many samples of vegetables, tubers, and fruits that have not been fully tested because there are not enough tests. The ward police have collected more vegetables, tubers, and fruits with residual levels of pesticides harmful to health and destroyed them, and have done propaganda work to inform people at the wholesale market to prevent them.

The night market, also known as the Me Ban wholesale market, Chieng Coi commune, is where many traders gather to unload their goods and then continue to bring them to other large and small markets in Son La province.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Duy Tung, Chief of Chieng Coi Ward Police, Son La City, said: In order to ensure safe food sources, raise public awareness and promptly prevent violations, we have been and are continuing to coordinate and organize food safety inspections at traditional markets, businesses, restaurants and collective kitchens in the area. The viewpoint is to strictly handle violations, especially food that does not ensure hygiene, food safety, or contains toxic chemicals.

It is known that through the inspection, the authorities and specialized agencies took 21 rapid test samples, including 19 test samples for 9 types of vegetables, tubers and fruits at different stalls.

All vehicles carrying vegetables, tubers, and fruits present at the wholesale market are required by the authorities to be inspected and have samples taken for rapid testing.

19 rapid tests on 9 types of vegetables, tubers, and fruits all showed residual pesticide content exceeding the permitted threshold. Many types of vegetables, tubers, and fruits at this source also contained preservatives and toxic substances that are prohibited for use.

Currently, Chieng Coi Ward Police are continuing to coordinate to propagate and warn people about the harmful effects of using harmful substances and pesticides in violation of regulations on vegetables, tubers and fruits. At the same time, propagating to people to clearly understand that the above-mentioned acts affect public health and violate the law.
