Implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Construction, Son Luong Commune, Lao Cai Province identified rural traffic infrastructure development as a breakthrough, creating a foundation to promote socio -economic development and improve people's lives.
Realizing the importance, the Party Committee and the government of Son Luong commune have focused on leadership, mobilizing people's strength, and taking advantage of State investment capital to gradually improve traffic infrastructure, forming a network connecting villages and communes. The most obvious result is that the rural appearance is improving day by day, and people's trust in the leadership of the Party and government is increasingly consolidated.

In particular, the recent circulation of storm No. 10 has seriously damaged many traffic routes, making it very difficult for people to travel and transport goods. In particular, Lang Manh village, more than 30 km from the center of Son Luong commune, was almost completely isolated due to landslides, and the inner-village roads were cut off, making access to relief and overcoming the initial consequences difficult.
Immediately after the storm, Son Luong commune mobilized the entire political system to join in, along with more than 200 people in Lang Manh and Giang Pang villages to urgently overcome the consequences. Those with strength contributed their strength, those with means contributed their means, and each meter of road was opened up amidst rocks and mud.
With the spirit of “State and People working together”, people voluntarily donated land, cut down trees, removed fences, and widened the road so that trucks could enter the village. That road not only helped transport materials to rebuild houses, carry food and clean water, but also became a “livelihood road” that paved the way for the revival of a land after a natural disaster.
Mr. Ho A Tru - Secretary of Lang Manh village Party Cell shared: "After the storm, we just hope to have a convenient road for trucks to carry materials to the village to rebuild houses, students to go to school more safely, and vegetables not to be damaged. The villagers are very united, everyone understands that opening the road today is opening up their own future."
The spirit of overcoming difficulties, solidarity and initiative of the people of Son Luong has lit the fire of belief, turning difficulties into opportunities. From the rocks and mud after the storm, new and wider roads have been built, demonstrating the endogenous strength of a rural area.
Behind the roads is the spirit of volunteerism and high consensus of the people. Despite many difficulties after the storm and flood, many households lost their land and fields, but people still joined hands with the government to restore production and expand roads. The spirit of "State and People working together" became a widespread movement, contributing to changing the face of rural mountainous areas.

Looking back at the achievements of the 2020 - 2025 period, Son Luong is a bright spot in the development of infrastructure in the highlands. In just 5 years, 40 projects with a total investment of more than 300 billion VND have been implemented in the area. Typical projects include: Son Luong - Nam Muoi - Sung Do concrete road; Phu Nham - Suoi Quyen road; inter-village and inter-hamlet roads and many school and civil infrastructure projects... In particular, Provincial Road 175 connecting with Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway (IC14) is being accelerated. When completed, this route will open up new development space, shorten the trade distance, helping Son Luong connect directly with economic centers of the Northwest region.
Comrade Trinh Xuan Thanh - Secretary of the Party Committee of Son Luong commune affirmed: "The locality has determined that the traffic system connecting the old communes, including Sung Do, Son Luong, Suoi Quyen, and Nam Muoi, is of special importance. When the road is opened, it will become a driving force for economic development, expand the market for agricultural products, and improve people's lives."
Along with infrastructure investment, Son Luong has also proactively restored production after natural disasters. Many areas of terraced fields that were eroded in the villages of Lang Manh, Giang Pang, and Tham Co are being urgently renovated for re-production. Organizations, individuals, and philanthropists also support plant varieties and agricultural materials to help people stabilize their lives. When traffic is convenient, the transportation of materials, consumption of products, and exchange of goods are also faster and more effective.
