US Vice President Kamala Harris waves before boarding Air Force Two at Andrews Air Force Base (Maryland state) on July 27.
"Within 1 week of launching, @KamalaHarris has raised $200 million. 66% of contributors are new faces. We have signed 170,000 new volunteers," Reuters quoted information from Vice President Harris' deputy campaign manager, Mr. Rob Flaherty.
Ms. Harris, the first woman of color and the first Asian American to become US vice president, raised $100 million within 36 hours of President Joe Biden announcing his decision to withdraw and support his running mate.
In an interview with MSNBC today, July 28, campaign co-chair Mitch Landrieu commented that Ms. Harris is experiencing one of the most successful weeks in American politics in the past 50 years.
"This is going to be a very close race," he commented.

On the same day, an ABC News/Ipsos poll released results showing that Vice President Harris is receiving increased support from voters.
Harris’s approval rating now stands at 43% to 42% disapproval, up from 35% to 46% a week ago.
In particular, the survey recorded an increase in support among independents, a political group that plays a key role in this year's election. Up to 44% of independents support Ms. Harris, up from 28% a week ago. The number of independents who do not support her dropped from 47% in the survey last week to 40%.
52% of respondents said she should be chosen as the presidential candidate. And 86% of Democratic voters supported her in this position.
Ms. Harris also has an advantage over former President Donald Trump in terms of the level of enthusiasm that American voters have for her as a candidate.
Specifically, 48% of respondents felt excited if Ms. Harris was chosen as the Democratic presidential candidate, while only 39% felt the same about Mr. Trump on the Republican side.
