Vinh Airport temporarily closed for 6 months to repair runway

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, to implement Package No. 11 of the project "Repairing runways and taxiways - Vinh Airport", this airport will be closed from July 1 to December 31, 2025.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has just sent a document to the People's Committee of Nghe An province and relevant units in the industry regarding the temporary closure of Vinh Airport to implement Package No. 11 "Construction of works, supply and installation of equipment" under the project "Repair of runways and taxiways - Vinh Airport".

ACV is implementing a project to repair the runway and taxiway of Vinh Airport using the capital for maintaining aviation infrastructure invested and managed by the State.

Accordingly, Vinh Airport will be temporarily closed from 0:00 on July 1, 2025 to 23:59 on December 31, 2025.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requires the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and Vinh Airport to be responsible for fully implementing legal regulations on investment and construction during the temporary closure of the Airport to implement the construction package.

At the same time, preside over and coordinate with the construction unit to organize the construction in compliance with the plan to ensure security, safety, fire prevention and fighting and environmental sanitation that has been submitted to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam for consideration and approval and take full responsibility for ensuring security, operational safety, fire prevention and fighting, environmental sanitation, labor safety and disease prevention during the construction process.

ACV is required to send a set of documents on security, safety and environmental sanitation plans approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to the Northern Airport Authority to conduct inspections and supervision of regulations on security, safety, fire prevention and fighting, environmental sanitation and disease prevention during construction according to regulations, as well as increase the force to inspect, supervise and maintain conditions to ensure security, safety, fire prevention and fighting, environmental sanitation and disease prevention during construction.

Based on the decision to temporarily close Vinh Airport issued by the Ministry of Construction , the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requested ACV to proactively work directly and provide data to the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) to carry out aviation information notification procedures according to regulations; the contract document between ACV and VATM serves as the basis for the Authority to announce the temporary closure of Vinh Airport on the aviation information notification system according to regulations.

In addition, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requires VATM to be responsible for announcing appropriate aviation information according to current regulations.

The Northern Airport Authority is assigned to inspect and supervise the assurance of security, safety, fire prevention, environmental sanitation and disease prevention during construction; strictly handle organizations and individuals who violate regulations; promptly report any arising related issues to the Department for remedial and handling measures.

Previously, the Ministry of Construction sent a document to the People's Committee of Nghe An province and ACV regarding the implementation of the project to extend the existing runway at Vinh Airport.

According to the Ministry of Construction, research into investing in extending runways and adding taxiways at the present time is necessary and consistent with approved planning.

The Ministry of Construction basically agreed with the plan for ACV to invest in the above project in its role as the management enterprise of Vinh Airport. The People's Committee of Nghe An province will allocate funds and support the implementation of site clearance work.
