Rambling about Tay Ninh cuisine

Việt NamViệt Nam12/12/2023

As life develops, people can talk about eating well and dressing well, not just “eating well and dressing warmly”. Tay Ninh cuisine is increasingly rich, with many culinary styles harmonized in this sunny land.

Besides famous dishes such as rice paper, rice noodle soup, chili salt or vegetarian cuisine, Tay Ninh cuisine is becoming more and more diverse with multi-regional and multi-national connections to meet the needs and tastes of diners.

You will easily find Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Thai style food, cakes, and drinks when you set foot in Tay Ninh city and neighboring districts and towns. You can enjoy sushi, sashimi, grilled meat, spicy noodles, hot pot, milk tea, and cakes in many spaces from popular to high-end, from small alley stalls to large restaurants. You can also find a new feeling when dining on the high floor of the Vincom building in the city center or enjoying delicious buffet dishes on top of Ba mountain... all giving you many interesting experiences.

In recent years, it is not difficult for Tay Ninh people to enjoy typical cuisines of other regions, when Hue-style beef noodle soup, bean curd noodle soup, Hanoi -style grilled pork noodle soup, Quang noodles, Phu Quoc stir-fried noodles, Da Lat-style grilled spring rolls, fresh seafood of all kinds... are available on every street and residential area in the province.

Restaurants with a new style are also a place to meet and socialize with friends. Ms. Phan Tuong Vi (Tien Thuan, Ben Cau) shared: sometimes on weekends, she meets friends to eat. And the dish her group likes best is Korean-style grilled meat. “The dish has meat, vegetables, kimchi, a unique sauce… it makes the dish more delicious, helping to change the taste of daily meals. Besides, the restaurant space is spacious and cool, eating and chatting with friends is very interesting.”

Social networks also contribute to bringing new food trends to Tay Ninh, recently there are coin cakes, hand-pounded lemon tea, mangosteen salad, steamed tofu... creating diversity in the culinary market. Truc Lam (Tan Hung commune, Tan Chau district) said that although it is not as hot as before, she recently caught up with the trend of a cup of hand-pounded lemon tea. She said: "This dish is starting to cool down, not so hot anymore, but I really want to try a cup of tea to know the taste."

However, the interesting thing about Tay Ninh cuisine comes from rustic dishes such as grilled chicken, mountain snails, young beef, dew-dried rice paper, chili salt...; delicious dishes to entertain guests and give as gifts to friends far away. The rustic, simple things are put into each dish by the locals and workers to create a unique mark. There is nothing better than a gathering of friends enjoying grilled chicken, hot porridge at the foot of the mountain in the cool air; or on hot days, a cool glass of Lipton with toppings that are rarely found anywhere else will also cool you down. On weekend afternoons, eating a plate of fragrant grilled beef wrapped in betel leaves with rice paper and dipped in fish sauce with friends is a choice worth considering; or inviting friends to have a light vegetarian meal or hot pot.

The population growth and the increased demand for food have led to the development of businesses, forming "food streets" in Tay Ninh. If in the past there was Nguyen Van Rop Street, a night food street along Tay Ninh Canal, Quan Bridge with many restaurants and eateries sought after by diners, now Le Duan and Nguyen Chi Thanh Streets have many famous eateries. Every time the street lights come on, these streets are brightly lit. Ms. Thanh Tam, residing in Ward 2, Tay Ninh City, shared: "When we have free time, my family invites each other to go out to eat. Finding a restaurant is quite easy now, just go to crowded streets like Le Duan and Nguyen Chi Thanh and you will find it right away."

The diversity of dishes across regions not only meets the needs of the people, but also creates a colorful cultural feature for Tay Ninh cuisine.
