At the end of May, at the construction site of Phuoc An Bridge, the bridge with the longest main span in Southeast Asia, the working atmosphere was still bustling from dawn to late at night. After nearly two years of construction, the shape of the bridge gradually appeared in the middle of Thi Vai River, connecting the two banks of Dong Nai and Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces.

Currently, hundreds of workers are urgently constructing the bridge piers, installing beams, casting spans and completing the bridge deck. At many locations, the tower segments are being cast continuously, the foundation is being dug, filled and leveled at a high pace. At times, the contractor has to work through the night to ensure progress.

According to the Regional Traffic Project Management Board and the Agricultural Sector, the project is divided into 5 main packages. The overall progress is currently under good control. Of which, the two key packages 38 and 39, which construct the approach bridge and main bridge, have reached more than 52% of the output.

Specifically, in package 38, from the beginning of the route to pier T36-T37, the contractor has completed all concrete piles, bored piles and completed the construction of 26 piers/piers. Notably, 11/37 SuperT spans have been installed, the bridge deck in each section is gradually taking shape, reaching about 60% of the volume.

From the approach road in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, the overpass spans have also been completely installed. Workers are speeding up construction day and night to complete the project on time.

Package 39, the main bridge over the river, the most important item of the entire project, has also reached more than 47% of the output. The two main pillars T38 and T39, tens of meters high, have stretched out into the middle of Thi Vai River, of which pier T38 has completed 10/15 tower segments.

At the construction site, Nguyen Toan Vinh, a worker who has been here for more than a year, shared: “The bridge is located in the middle of the river, built high up, with strong winds, so I was worried at first. But with full safety equipment, and everyone encouraging each other, I gradually got used to it. This is one of the most special projects I have ever done.”

While Ba Ria - Vung Tau is busy with construction, Dong Nai is still slow. Packages 40 and 41 have just completed clearing the ground and drilling test piles at some locations, but the progress of filling the foundation is still slow due to lack of sand for filling. Currently, the output is only about 1%. Some locations are still stuck with site clearance, especially areas related to forest land.

The representative of the Project Management Board said that they will continue to urge the contractor to focus on completing the piers and bridge decks of packages 38 and 39, while speeding up the site clearance and conversion of forest land to construct the packages in Dong Nai. In addition, they will also closely coordinate with the Vung Tau Maritime Port Authority to grant construction permits on the Thi Vai River, ensuring maritime safety.

Dự án có tổng mức đầu tư gần 4.900 tỷ đồng, khởi công vào tháng 6/2023 và dự kiến hoàn thành năm 2027.

The project has a total investment of nearly 4,900 billion VND, starting construction in June 2023 and expected to be completed in 2027.

At the entire construction site, there are currently about 350 engineers and workers working with many super-heavy cranes up to 350 tons, 250 tons and specialized tower cranes for beam installation and column casting.

Phuoc An Bridge project has a total length of nearly 4.4km, of which the main bridge is more than 3.5km long. The bridge connects Cai Mep - Thi Vai inter-port route (Phu My town, Ba Ria - Vung Tau) to Phuoc An port area (Nhon Trach district, Dong Nai), creating a strategic traffic axis for the Southeast region.

The most special feature of the project is the distance between the two main pillars of up to 250m, the longest in Southeast Asia to date. The bridge is designed with a cable-stayed design, with a clearance of 55m, allowing ships with a capacity of 30,000 tons to pass easily.

The total investment of the project is nearly 4,900 billion VND, of which the central budget supports 2,000 billion VND, the rest is arranged by Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. The project started in June 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2027.

Upon completion, Phuoc An Bridge will directly connect the Cai Mep - Thi Vai seaport system with the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway, helping to shorten the distance of transporting goods from the Southeast to the West by about 30km. At the same time, the project will contribute to reducing the load on National Highway 51, which has been overloaded for many years, creating momentum for the development of the key economic region in the South.
