Creating changes in awareness and action in preventing and combating domestic violence

Over the past 10 years, the number of domestic violence cases in Hanoi has decreased significantly. From 331 cases detected in 2014, this number has decreased to 263 cases in 2017 and only 24 cases in 2024.

On June 5, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports held a conference to respond to the National Action Month on Domestic Violence Prevention and Control in 2025 with the theme "Ending Violence, Fostering Love", towards the celebration of Vietnamese Family Day on June 28.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Pham Xuan Tai, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, emphasized the important role of the family in nurturing and cultivating the personality, lifestyle, and good traditional ethics of the Vietnamese people. Building a prosperous, progressive, happy, and civilized family is an important goal of the City's Family Development Strategy until 2030.

According to statistics, there have been positive results in the prevention and control of domestic violence in Hanoi. Over the past 10 years, the number of domestic violence cases in Hanoi has decreased significantly. From 331 cases detected in 2014, this number has decreased to 263 cases in 2017 and only 24 cases in 2024. Most victims receive timely mental and psychological counseling and medical care.

Mr. Pham Xuan Tai pointed out that the process of industrialization, modernization, and international integration has brought about important achievements in economic, cultural, and social development, but at the same time, it has also created challenges for families. Domestic violence has become a serious problem in modern society, causing serious consequences, affecting the honor, dignity, and even the lives of family members, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly, women, and children.

Domestic violence not only erodes good traditional values ​​but also causes a decline in family happiness and sustainability, negatively impacts socio-economic life, and disrupts social order and safety.

Speaking in response, Ms. Do Thi Thuy Ha, Vice Chairwoman of Nam Tu Liem District People's Committee, said that implementing the direction of the Government, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Hanoi People's Committee on preventing and combating domestic violence, Nam Tu Liem District has synchronously deployed many solutions to improve the effectiveness of domestic violence prevention and combat.

In particular, in addition to the active activities of 141 Front Committees of Residential Groups in mobilizing people to maintain solidarity, love and sharing in the community, Nam Tu Liem District also has 22 clubs for building sustainable families, 22 groups for preventing and combating domestic violence. Maintain and replicate models, clubs for building sustainable families, groups for preventing and combating domestic violence in residential groups in the district.

To achieve the goal of "Improving the effectiveness of domestic violence prevention and control, creating changes in awareness and actions in preventing and controlling violence to gradually reduce domestic violence, and promptly support victims of domestic violence", the leaders of the Department of Culture and Sports have proposed many key tasks such as continuing to raise awareness of domestic violence prevention and control and organizing activities well in localities, agencies and units according to the provisions of the Law on Domestic Violence Prevention and Control.

Sectors are more proactive in developing specific tasks, projects and plans to implement goals and targets on domestic violence prevention and control. Coordinate in building a network of population collaborators to carry out family and children work in the community.

Further promote communication on domestic violence prevention and control to suit each target group and regional culture, with special attention to ethnic minority areas. Diversify methods, types, and products of information, communication, and education on domestic violence prevention and control.

Fourth, strengthen inspection and examination of the implementation of laws and policies on preventing and combating domestic violence. Promptly resolve complaints and denunciations about violations of laws on preventing and combating domestic violence.

With the spirit of "Ending violence, fostering love", the National Action Month on Domestic Violence Prevention and Control in 2025 promises to bring many meaningful activities, contributing to building prosperous, progressive, happy and civilized families in the capital Hanoi.
