Creating an innovative startup environment

In 2019, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong (Thang Loi 2 village, Ia Sol commune, Phu Thien district) decided to start a business in the field of processing and branding dried medicinal products from male papaya flowers, wild bitter melon, and ginseng.

She shared: “Through following the mass media as well as the Provincial Startup Information Portal, I am very impressed with the innovation startup movement and model in the province.

Taking advantage of local medicinal resources to produce products, each month, my facility supplies the market with about 300 kg of male papaya flowers, 200 kg of ginseng and 100 kg of dried wild bitter melon. After deducting expenses, my family earns a profit of over 200 million VND/year. In 2023, my dried medicinal product was recognized as a 3-star OCOP product.

Similarly, Mr. Huynh Van Loc (Tien Son 2 village, Bien Ho commune, Pleiku city) said: Before 2020, he only grew short-term vegetables so the profit was not high. After accessing information and learning about typical startup models in the province, he decided to invest more than 250 million VND to install a greenhouse system to grow melons, strawberries and cherry tomatoes.

“With 5 sao of organically grown strawberries, cherry tomatoes and melons, each year, my family earns over 300 million VND after deducting expenses. I am continuing to expand the greenhouse area to grow more peony grapes,” Mr. Loc shared.

In recent times, the Youth Union and Association organizations in the province have actively promoted and disseminated the implementation plan of the Project "Supporting the national innovation startup ecosystem until 2025" in the province along with mechanisms and policies to support innovation startups of the country and the province; established a channel to support the consumption of OCOP products and youth products with the columns "Youth startups", "Startup products" on the Provincial Youth Union's website; promoted coordination in propaganda on mass media, websites, social networks about science, technology, and technology in production for rural youth...

Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union Do Duc Thanh said: In the period of 2021-2024, the Provincial Youth Union has coordinated to organize 4 "Creative Startup Ideas" competitions. Thereby, 112 creative startup ideas have been discovered and supported. The Provincial Youth Union has also organized communication activities, training on startups for young people, skills to connect startups and develop businesses, and inspire startups for young people through the program "Accompanying young startups".

To arouse the entrepreneurial spirit of female members, according to the President of the Provincial Women's Union Ro Cham H'Hong, the Union at all levels needs to focus on promoting and introducing typical examples of startups. In the period of 2022-2024, the Union has produced 12 columns and 96 articles promoting typical examples of female startups and activities to support female members in starting businesses... on mass media.

In addition, the Women's Union at all levels promotes typical examples of women starting businesses through regular meetings and social networks. Coordinates with relevant sectors to organize 13 training courses on necessary skills for starting a business, etc.

The Department of Science and Technology also regularly disseminates, updates, posts information, introduces mechanisms, policies, innovative start-up activities, and successful start-up models in the province on the Provincial Start-up Information Portal so that people can follow and promptly grasp information about innovative start-ups.

Open TV columns, news pages specializing in startups on Gia Lai Newspaper, Provincial Radio and Television Station and publish Science-Technology and Innovation Newsletter.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Cuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology - Information: "The Department maintains the operation of the Provincial Startup Information Portal and connects with the National Startup Information Portal to regularly provide information on innovative startups nationwide for organizations and individuals in need. Currently, the Gia Lai Startup Information Portal has had nearly 350,000 visits.

In parallel, the Department organizes seminars and forums for dialogue between the government, experts, scientists and businesses and young people; coordinates the organization of conferences and scientific seminars on innovative startups. Propagating and integrating content related to tasks, solutions, instructions and support for the implementation of the project "Supporting the national innovative startup ecosystem to 2025" in the province.
