(CLO) On November 6, the Natural Resources and Environment Magazine ( Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment ) coordinated with the Central Propaganda Department and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) to organize the Forum "Women pioneering the development of circular economy" to discuss and find solutions to solve the problem of plastic waste.
Accordingly, the Union at all levels focuses on raising awareness and changing behavior for members, women and people in collecting, recycling and reusing waste according to the circular principle; strengthening the management of plastic waste in agricultural, forestry and fishery production activities in Vietnam; building a community without plastic waste; encouraging initiatives to create safe, environmentally friendly products with practical value for the community, contributing to the development of a circular economy towards sustainable development.

Many good and creative models and practices in recycling and reusing resources from domestic solid waste sources of Women's Unions at all levels have been built, maintained and replicated, and have been actively contributing to creating changes in awareness and environmental protection actions of each cadre, member, woman and community towards ensuring the implementation of the provisions of the Law on Environmental Protection on management and classification of domestic solid waste at source from January 1, 2025.
Sharing information at the forum, Dr. Dao Xuan Hung - Editor-in-Chief of Natural Resources and Environment Magazine said: “ Classifying domestic solid waste at source is a fundamental factor to protect the environment and effectively exploit resources from waste to implement the circular economic development cycle to ensure sustainable development. To do that well, it is necessary to have the cooperation of the whole community, in which the role of women is an important factor in classifying waste at source and promoting awareness and active participation of each citizen in protecting the living environment ”.
The forum was organized in 2 sessions: The role of women and the community in classifying domestic solid waste at source; women pioneering the development of circular economy.
At the sessions, delegates heard a lot of useful information about managing domestic solid waste at source, the important benefits of waste classification and the premise to promote circular economic development towards sustainable development.
The forum's presentations and discussions focused on specific issues such as: Challenges in managing domestic solid waste at source; The role of state management agencies, socio-political organizations and communities in localities; The pioneering role of women in classifying waste at source.
Sharing experiences in propaganda and mobilizing members and women to classify and treat domestic solid waste at source towards building a circular economy; Effective models in classifying and treating organic waste with indigenous microorganisms to contribute to environmental protection; The role of press and media agencies; Lessons learned from some countries on classifying domestic solid waste...
